    Hello,

So I have a couple of questions about my 95 Tacoma, I would appreciate any advise yall are willing to share.

The truck runs fine, does not sputter and then just dies. It is such a fast shut down only at idle, that it seems electronic. No sputter at all. The truck would not run consistently without just shutting down.

I have the idle jacked up to about 11k rpms and it runs well, except for poor gas millage and foul exhaust smell.

    1. OBII code is P0336 cps A circuit.
I have changed the crankshaft position sensor which I think is the wrong sensor for this code. I changed the one on the bottom drivers side. I think this code is for the camshaft position sensor. Any suggestions? Location of the camshaft position sensor?

    2. OBII code P0510 Closed throttle position switch.
Honestly I think this is a direct result of the increased idle. Anyone think anything else?

The truck has 225k miles and has been a workhorse until about a year ago. I have fairly recently replaced the distributor(cheap ebay model), MAF, cleaned the throttle body.

Also, the exhaust is Swiss cheese, no cat and everything from the exhaust manifold down has holes. It has been like this for years before this dying issue. I have no codes coming from those sensors.

I know it is a lot but this is an awesome forum that I have learned from. I mostly read an don't post much. Any advise would be much appreciated.

    CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

Refer to IICrankshaft Position Sensor IIAll Circuit Malfunctionll on page EG-238.

If the ECM records the DTC P0336, it operates the fail safe function, stopping the fuel injection.

Code is correct for crankshaft position sensor. Your year uses the distributer as the camshaft position sensor. Check the crank pos sensor wires really good.

This makes sense. I just got the FSM, it seems to be referring to the V6 model on the EG-238. Maybe I am reading it wrong.

Yeah I was reading it wrong. Good info.

I looked at EG-238 and IG-11 for the distributor instructions. I think that I basically did connect it correctly but will try again.

I have replaced the crankshaft and looked at the wires. I can double check. Where do they run after connecting the sensor to the plug?

Is it possible that my distributor is wrong model or has a bad camshaft sensor?

Unsure on were they run other then to ECU. I don't own a 4cyl truck. It's possible your distributer is defective.

Any reason the ecm would not have codes for no cat and Swiss cheese exhaust? It has been this way for a long time but I though the ecm would have some code?

Seems like I should be getting codes for that.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I’m having the same issue, getting the same code. I replaced the crank sensor and distributor but still get the crank sensor code. I also have a miss that has been getting progressively worse.
