nice man. I think I’m just gonna refinish them w silver, my Tacoma is black and I’m not really liking the black on black look. There was a member on here with a black 1st gen and these exact wheels with my same BFG all terrains that looked so clean and handsome. Very oemish look yet slightly beefed:

I know a lot of people poo-poo in black wheels but I’ve had black wheels on every vehicle of mine dating back to 1990.

    I love them.

But silver wheels on a black truck looks classic and awesome.

Agreed. The murdered out look is kind of cool looking but I wouldn’t want it on my truck.

I love the SPC F5 wheels. They’re the most perfect wheel I’ve ever seen. They make them in Dark Bronze and I’ve seen the gallery with those wheels on a black truck. Looks unreal.

you should post a pic of your truck in the Photoshop thread and have someone make them dark bronze. You’ll get an idea of what it would look like.

I think it would look amazing.

Id have to agreee that the F5 is a pretty amazing looking wheel. Simple, clean, beautiful. It almost looks like a wheel Toyota could have designed and the bronze on black is def boneriffic

Here’s my truck On black method NVs, just kinda over em, maybe it’s the faux beadlock? Maybe I’ve just seen them on too many f150s? Idk, I just want a more oem/Toyota lookin wheeL.

I’m also thinking I’m gonna peel off the plastidip on the rear bumper and door handles. It took me blacking out this truck to realize I actually prefer chrome...Go figure

Here’s the wheels the PO put on the 04. I hate the looks of these, fake headlock and all. (And yes, the PO also places the bedside decals about 6” too high)

On a side note, I saw you found the specs for the T4R limited wheels. Mind sharing that with me? I’m just curious.

I literally search around TW every few months waiting on someone to do a 95-97 front end swap on a DC. It finally appeared.

While I wait for parts the first project is converting the tailgate from 2003 style:
    BAFD1F49-D166-4812-8AB2-DA8B0E4B7225.jpg

    To the 95-97 style:
    CE35B3EE-F763-48EA-B6D8-A1055BEA1498.jpg

I Already have the decals. Just need to peel off the plastidip from the bumper. I think I’m gonna keep my 2003 taillights as I see them as an improvement and it would be kind of a wiring headache to go with the earlier ones. My truck is a Limited which they didn’t have back then so I’ll prob Just omit the “sx” and “Lx” decals and just use the “Tacoma” one

You’re welcome. I prepped and sprayed my set today with self etching primer. Color and clearcoat tomorrow...

You swapping out the core support or trying to use the 01-04 one?

Was the self etching primer zinc chromate? By the look of the color, it appears you did. That’s what I was told you have to use on alloy wheels.

Also did you sand the wheels? Or just wash them?

not really sure ? I used this:
    B319F2BF-A7BA-4022-8050-49944C77F202.jpg

I sanded a good bit yes, to metal in some spots and scuffed up the finish with higher grit sandpaper and red scotch brite pads. Cleaned up w Isopropyl alcohol before the self etching primer

I’m going to keep the 03 radiator Support and modify it to mount the 95-97 headlights. ccrowe323’s method seems to be effective

You gonna clear coat? I always avoid it because it makes touch up easier. I wheel and they throw gravel down on the roads here in the winter.

Never had an issue with the paint w/o using a clear coat.
