I bought an Optima Battery for my truck and it grounded to the frame while I was driving. I checked the battery its a good battery. When I hooked the battery back up there is a buzzing noise from the flasher relay on the driver side in the fuse box. I thought this was back feed from the starter so I pulled the starter and had it bench tested and its a good starter. I don't really know where to go from here so if any body knows I would appreciate the help.

What is the actual battery voltage? Was it load tested?

I don't know the actual voltage but I took it to AutoZone and they charged it and I assume load tested it. Told me it was a good battery.

Hey your in Anchorage too! Cool!

You should introduce yourself over here. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/alaska/247302-alaska-bs-thread.html

Anyways, have you checked for good connections via cables?

Sometimes grounding a battery will destroy it, despite what Autozone can tell you by charging it, which may or may not be load testing it. If you are planning on buying a new battery I would check out an AGM from FATS. Deka Intimidator's are supposed to be great long lasting batteries even for winching and a lot of the buggies rock them.

I will try to use another battery to start the truck. Right now the check engine light, battery light, parking break light, and one other light come on when I put the key in it just doesn't turn over. Hopefully its just the battery because this is really killing my time outside. I will check out the forum thanks for the invite.

Are your headlights as bright as normal? That is an easy way to get a small load to a battery to do a cheap battery test if you do not have test equipment.

Then your battery is toast. If the battery can't power the headlights it won't power the starter.

I just couldn't figure out why the dash lights come on but the radio and the hazards don't work. Also the door ajar sound and light work.

Did you fry a wire when it shorted out?

Do the few lights that work dim when you try to turn the headlights on? If they do dim your battery is shot, if they do not dim you might have another problem (potentially in addition to the battery)

When I go to turn the lights on the relays in the fuse box just start going crazy buzzing making all kinds of noise so I think maybe the battery might just be hosed I am going to get a new one now to see if thats it.

I talked to the toyota dealer and they recommended that I check underneath the fuse box in the hood just to make sure nothing was melted because that could be causing the relays to do some funky stuff.
