    Hey, folks:

Just bought a 1996 DLX 3.4L, and it has some crazy ass so-not-mechanic-tracks all over in the works. It's been a long time since I owned a first gen (had a 1997 and a 2001), so it's a re-learning curve. I haven't ever had the pleasure (ha!) of working on a rear diff with an E-locker, so I was hoping to get a little help. My gearing is stock at 4.10 with an 8" ring.

Dude who sold me this truck has managed to weld a plate over where the e-locker actuator should sit. That is not coming off; I have accepted this already. However, if I could find an actuator that works (say, one off of a 3.73 8"), and replace the cover with the mounting spot properly un-welded, is it a bolt-and-go transfer?

Or should I just swap out the entire rear axle for one that works?

Looking to go for the cheapest yet sturdiest option here, so keep that in mind.

Yes, after you "unweld" that block off plate, any factory actuator should bolt right up
