yup, i have a few saved on ebay for when i go to replace them. its a stupid setup in my opinion. Here, pry out these pieces of plastic that are in the dashboard via pressure clips, but be careful not to break them.

ouch rough weekend. are you thinking about taking it to a body shop to fix the windshield area or try to tackle it yourself?

i need to fix my hood. for some reason the rear of it sticks up above the fenders almost like there are spacers but there arent.
the clips that get me are the little metal ones on the plastic tabs for the interior panels. pull the panel and the metal clip breaks the plastic half the time

I'm gonna try real hard not to take it to a body shop just because if i need to do that the car will be off the road this year. It's going to take a while to save up for that repair. i'm going to do some exploring in that area this weekend and see how bad it is and how far it goes.

So, I think I lucked out. I did my investigating and within maybe 15 seconds or so of grinding at the rust, i found clean metal. I did find two very small perforations but they can be easily tacked shut.

However, right above the clean metal I found more traces of rust going up under the windshield.

So, the situation escalated quickly from there...

So, after fighting with the windshield for freakin 5 hours, its out. That 22 year old glue and sealant did not want to let go. And, I probably should have asked someone to come over and help me take it off. I made that harder than it needed to be doing it myself. I found 2 more small sections of rust. Again, i spent some time with a wire wheel and got down to clean metal again. So, I think I lucked out. I'll finish cleaning it up and spray some rust inhibiting paint on there before I prime and paint. THEN, i'll finally get the glass company to come out and do there work.

So, I'm frustrated that I found this but at the same time I'm glad I found it. I'm frustrated because its going to add a good bit of time onto my schedule for getting the car back on the road, but I'm glad because I caught it while it is fixable and I'll have some piece of mind knowing that I took care of it correctly.

i used a cheap windshield removal tool i got off Amazon or ebay, but i swapped out the cheapo piano wire they give you with some braided cutting wire. it worked great when i used it to remove that rear windshield at the upull yard, but on my car it took FOREVER to cut through the glue and sealant on the front windshield. FOREVER lol

All down to good metal and first step applied! Rust converting / inhibiting primer. Next step will be scuff that up slightly and applying chassis saver.

I do like them, i was >< this close to pulling the trigger on doing that mod when i decided just to stick with the classic 94-97 front end. You would think that i would have gone with the jdm front especially after i cut out the core support on the car to make that repair lol

Finally got around to coating the area, just need to add some green paint and get the window guys out here.

I tried using the stronger goof off stuff to remove the glue adhesive off my door panels, it removed some but it made them super sticky. what else could i use to safely remove this from the door panels?

I don't know, maybe tape it off and use some mineral spirits or acetone. In the Navy we used MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) until it was banned, then it was Naphtha, ie Aliphatic Naphtha for adhesives. It's almost identical to Zippo fluid, I used to fill my Zippo with it.

I've always had luck with Goo-Gone brand. Not sure how it compares to the heavier duty Goof Off you already used.

I havent had this much trouble removing the adhesive before, i also didnt use heavy duty headliner adhesive before either. Apparently that makes a big difference. i'll have to try some acetone next and see if i can remove the glue and not the door panel plastic lol

Alright, i have a few updates. i went to the local upull yard and snagged an undamaged climate control system for the car since i broke mine. 30% for the day, so i believe i paid $18 for it? I also grabbed just about every fender liner clip and side skirt clip i could find.

Then that night i finished up the paint work for around the front windshield.

Then Sunday all hell broke loose. I have never, EVER been so sick in my life. I am still not 100%, hell i'm not even 50%. I got the flu so freakin bad it sent me to the ER Monday night, which I am very glad my wife forced me into that. Despite being sick, Wednesday morning the glass company came out and installed that rear glass i pulled from the yard a while back, and installed a new front glass with new window trim. i still need to install the side trim pieces, but it will be nice having clear glass finally.

Now i can start really putting this car back together. Maybe not this weekend though, i still feel like i need to sleep for about a year...
