    Hey guys,

Long time lurker here! I have used this forum quite a bit for tips/fixes/help for my truck. I sure do appreciate all of your guys/gals combined knowledge!

Anyways, I drive a 1996 Tacoma 3.4l v6 4wd manual extended cab with about 232,000 awesome miles on him. However, I think his clutch is on its last leg.. The throw out bearing has made the noise most of us get for a years now. The kind of 'squeak squeak squeak' while it's not depressed. Kind of like a cricket chirp sound. Then a few months ago it started to make the clutch whine while it is depressed. However, over the past few weeks, some new issues have popped up.

About 3 weeks ago, I noticed a slight gas pedal vibration from 35-40ish mph. I just barely can notice it. I have driven this truck its entire life (since I was 8 yrs old) so any change in him I notice. I know it is not my 32's I run on it. They are a little out of balance, but this vibration is way too quick to be the tires rotating while doing 40mph and way to soft to be from those heavy things. Plus, i feel it in the gas pedal mainly. It seemed to come and go over the past few weeks so I put it in the back of my mind. Then today happened..

When coming to a stop in gear, and before putting the clutch in and hitting the brakes, it starts to lurch/surge and shake. The best way to replicate this is to get him up to 8-9mph in first gear and then let completely off the gas. Every time I do this he jerks and lurches until I push the clutch/brake in and come to a stop. Usually, he would just coast down smoothly to under 1000rpm before he starts to lug.

I think we had a recall done on the clutch before he hit 40k. Both my dad and I can't exactly remember when and even if they replaced everything or just the clutch plate. Or even anything at all ha So this puts at least 180k on this current setup.

I am assuming my clutch is done for. But maybe I am getting some binding in the driveline from a bad u joint(s)? All the u joints are original, too. I crawled under him in the rain today and the u joints all felt tight. Zero play from what I can tell.

Sorry for such a long post. I am just trying to be detailed. The diffs and transmission fluid were replaced about 20k ago, too. Unfortunately, I moved out of my home state 1.5yrs ago and lost access to tools, lifts, 20-50% off parts at napa, carquest auto zone, ect and a buddy who has completely rebuilt my exact truck from the ground up... I replaced a ton of things (preventative maintenance) before I moved away too. I am a recent college grad as well. Otherwise, I would have did the clutch, cv axels, ect a long time ago while I had access to all of the said above.

He is headed to a mechanic tomorrow, but thought I would see what you all thought. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

p.s. My truck is named Winston which is why I refer to it as 'he'. My buddies named him this because he is old, stubborn, and keeps on tickin! haha
