I just bought a 1996 Tacoma xtracab 2WD with the 2.4l and 5 speed manual trans. It ran, albeit not optimally, when I purchased last week.

In the process of doing a tuneup (cap/rotor/wires/plugs, I pulled the distributor cap and found this:

As you’re looking at the distributor from the pass side fender, the two ring terminals on the right were hanging loose when I pulled the cover from the coil pack. Some research elsewhere says both should have been attached to the threaded post on the right but when I reconnected them and put the new rotor and cap in place, it would not fire when turning engine over. I have no spark at the plug.

    Is it possible:

Those two wires should have been disconnected?
Only one of them should’ve been connected?
    I shorted something reconnecting them?
    Something else?[IMG] [IMG]

if it ran before then thats probably not the problem im not sure where those wires came off but i would assume when you pulled the cap they came loose i would look distributor over and see if you can see where they might of come off i cant imagine the wires were just floating around in there loose
