I'm having a difficult time removing the tailgate for my 1996 Toyota Tacoma 2 wheel drive base model. I've been able to take off the bolt from the left side of the tailgate however I've been unable to remove the right side Bolt. The bolt is spinning freely but won't seem to release her come out it feels like something is holding it. Am I just completely missing something or is there a certain trick that I'm supposed to do to release the bolt? Any help would be appreciated.

Disregard, there was so much rust that the bushing had basically rust welded itself to the bolt. Once I hammered a mini pry and started ratcheting to break up the rust eventually the bushing that allows the tailgate to move freely came away from the bolt and it came out easily after that. I can see that this rebuild is just going to be like that.

Exactly the same thing happened to me when I removed my gate. Very frustrating!
