    Hey all,

I recently took apart and put back together my entire dashboard (heater core replacement), and since i've done that, the speedometer is ~5mph too fast. It's a 1996 automatic 2wd with the V6, the speedometer is controlled by a cable, so I'm not sure how to adjust it, or if there is something I did wrong when putting it back together that would contribute to that. There's also a LITTLE bit of play with the speedometer, where it will sort of bounce around your correct speed. Any advice or tips would be appreciated!

lubing the cable should help with the needle bounce. I havnt pulled the flex cable out of a Tacoma but other vehicles I have been able to unscrew the housing from the speedo drive on the trans and pull the flex shaft out and pull it through a rag to clean it. regrease the cable and slide it back up inside the housing. You might have to spin the cable a bit to get the flats of the square end to engage the back of the speedo housing to get it seat fully.

you taking the cluster out and reinstalling it shouldnt have done anything to the mph reading unless you jammed the cable drive into the back of the speedo gage so hard as to damage it.
