I apparently have the dreaded main shaft bearing knock in my trans now...rebuild or find used? What other transmissions will fit ?shifts fine,no issues beside the knock.... How long can I expect it to last?

Could knock for years,,could knock for another 2 minutes and seize/shatter at speed.

Is fixing it yourself out of the question or abilities or resources?.

If it's the bearing,,and it just started up,,then it could be really cheap to fix on one's own. Gaskets, bearing, fluid, tools, clean table, good light, ect.

Estimates on a fix then, and then scour the yards for a low mile same trans and see how much for used.

2 of those potentially require you to get down and dirty regardless.

I've never tore into to one...but I am a mechanic by trade.so it shouldn't be a problem.would just be easier and less time consuming for me to pull and replace.its been knocking for a while....and I have wheeled the piss out of it...so I guess I'm just sitting on a bomb.lol

Does any body have an exploded view of the actual bearing that I need to replace?

Replaced bearings in older toy 5 speeds,,both car and truck. It's not to crazy,,kinda self explanatory,,to a degree. Go slow, take pics and learn as you go.

Give Gearcruncher a yodel and he will take you there.

I don't know these guys,,even though they are really close. Just grabbed a part and price of what you probably need,,for clean and quick work.

Good news. If the machine work was done correctly then the clutch friction disk should seat to the resurfaced and new pilot bearing flywheel pretty quick. You still want to be gentle for a few miles, to make sure your $1100 stays where it should.
