20200304_133506.jpg Maybe someone has run into this problem before. Took oem alternator to autozone, got a replacement, compared them both and they match, replace with new one now my tensioner has no gap and belt is still loose. Thought maybe I needed a new belt so I replaced it, same issue.

Since you had to take off the A/C and power steering belts first, is it possible you got your belts mixed up?

Yeah I think I was just seeing things funny...
Is the new pulley identical in size to the old?

First thing I did was take the new alternator off and took it back to autozone to do a side by side comparison to the oem. Identical. Threw it back on hoping I somehow put it on wrong. Same issue. Then got a new belt and replaced it. Still doing it. Thanks for replies really don't know what's happening. All the belts are on exactly the way they should be.

When you get it back together, do the universe a favor and smear some never-seize on the tensioner stud

Had a battery leak and it ate up a bit of stuff. Threw some purple power on there and rinsed most off but still turned a few things

Straight from the horse's mouth(if that even means anything worthwhile anymore) I copied these from the Gates website and for our 2.7L engine. It's common to mix up the alt/fan belt with AC belt as they're only 5cm difference in length, which is why the other forum homie mentioned that above.

could it be that the oem pulley needs to be put on new alternator? somes these have universal fit for other vehicles and you need to cannibalize your old part to make it work

    4 run, 2 don't
Better yet, wrap the belt the appropriate way throughout the pulleys.

I think you installed the alternator upside down. Look at mine, the reinforced spot with the bolt hole is right in the center of the housing and even though my belt is tight, there’s still a lot of adjustment. Yours looks like it’s on the outer edge, which if you flipped it would be the inner edge that bolts in close to the engine block.

It's on there right, connectors are on top. Got a smaller belt and solved the problem

Wouldn't happen to know torque specs on those idler pulleys would ya? Searching has led me no where

    Reserected from the dead.
In your 1st pic, I see a thick wire between the block and the body of the alternator. If so, the alternator is 180* off. You should not have that positive wire next to the block.

If that's not a wire, disregard.

I don't off the top of my head but I've been doing it for 20+ years and have done it by feel forever. I'd guess around 35 ft lbs, I'd call it good and snug. Not good and tight, but good and snug......that's not gonna help ya. I'll look for it and come back to post it if I find it :D
