After quite a bit of troubleshooting from trusted mechanics (not the dealer) it is highly suspected I need a new ECU. It was throwing a Knock Sensor code originally. Replacing this fixed the issue several times over for about 10-20 miles. Inevitably the code continued with the engine loosing some power. The wiring was tested as good. I was told by a mechanic that the Computer system needs to be reprogrammed once a new one was put in. (bear in mind, I am not a mechanic so I may be misinterpreting the language a bit) However, I watched some YouTube Vids that show as long as the part number is correct, it's a matter of just replugging everything back in.
I am seeking advice on how to proceed with getting the correct ECU and install. If I could save a few hundred Bucks, this would be nice. Thanks on any sound advice.

No programming required, plug and play. The ECU is self learning.

    B4 I went full on ECM searching…..

I would crack the case of the ECM and visually inspect. Any burnt/discolored solders will confirm what mech stating

I’m no expert, but what I have reader here, some ECM’s super rare….some easily available

another option is sending to vendor to be RM’d

    https://www.unitedradio.com/

I have never used, but few of my Honda race friends have used with success.
Seems that their ECMs (1990ish)are not only obsolete, but bc of racing/known failures not available even on eBay

I wish I knew of United Radio before this. I had to have a customer scrape a mechaically good Honda wagon because multiple ECM's/TCM's were bad... multiple repair attempts and quite a few hours trying to save the car but in the end when it is so reliant on the electrical bits that cant be fixed there is no other choice. I hope yours is differernt.

United Radio is the real deal at least, they do actual component level diagnosis and repair. Also do a great job on other computer related items that are hard to get replacements of like HVAC control units and window switch clusters.

1st question should of been ...is it auto or standard....

if its auto ecm's are dime a dozen......$60~80

    if its standard.....its 10x that

9 out of 10 that spring for an another ecm....it ends up not being that
    a somewhat risky hail marry

As CC says, I'd inspect that board real close first

Thanks for the reply's and feedback. It is a manual. I have found the correct part number. What I have found is that the ECU I am looking for, for my particular model is 2 to 3 more expensive than that of automatics. I will check out United Radio as well.
Also, my understanding is that these ECU's are configured and assigned to each vehicle according to its VIN. Is this correct? Or is it possible to find a salvage ECU with the same corresponding part number, plug and drive?
    Thanks for any extra information.

No, they have no vehicle specific configuration. You can plug a part number identical one right in and it will work.
