I’m keeping the stock axles, driveshafts, and stock 5 speed transmission in my 1997 Tacoma.

I had Performance adapters in Wisconsin build an adapter plate that will allow a T56 bellhousing to bolt up to the stock 5 speed trans. The adapter plate will be for sale to anyone if you’re interested.

I will be building the engine mounts, putting in a bed mounted fuel tank, and everything else involved. If anyone has input that would be great.

Really cool idea, what's the plan for a clutch. I've got a great clutch guy in GA if you haven't gotten that far yet. I'll be interested in seeing your oil pan for the 4.great too, there's very little clearance around the front diff even with the stock 4cyl or v6 pans.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I have learned replace parts as they fail.

You always will have the next weak link. Let it be the cheapest easy fix you can.

    Enjoy Yourself Best of Luck.

Plan for the clutch is to use a GM pressure plate with a Toyota clutch disk

Cool, might work pretty close, looks like the average LS clutch measures right at about 11" and toyota clutches are 10". Much bigger friction area on an LS clutch but still should be workable. Just gotta hope the input shaft length works out well so you can still reach a conversion pilot bearing/bushing in the crank.

Cool build. What are your plans for the original bell housing? I could use a new OEM clutch/bell housing for my '02 3.4l transmission.

Had a 2010 Silverado a few trucks back. Interior was cheap, and a couple small things had to be fixed, but the 4.8 was really a killer engine. Best v8 GM made, IMO. Bet it's gonna rip in a 1st gen taco

Reason I went with the 4.8 instead of a 5.3 was the higher revs as well as the lower torque. I’m hoping to not blow everything apart with the slightly less torque but I guess we’ll see. In response to Gen1andDone I have no plans for the bellhousing so if you paid shipping it yours.

That would be awesome! I don't know how far it would have to ship but I can't imagine shipping $ would be too crazy.
I guess I first should have asked if your truck originally had the 3.4l?

I like it. There is probably some reason I haven’t thought of, but why not just use the AA LS to early r150f adapter and swap the early r150f(short) input shaft into your existing r150f with the long input?

    https://www.polyperformance.com/adv...manual-tranny-adapter-bell-housing-kit-712561

AAs adapter quality are hit and miss so I bet your custom will be better quality.

edit- did some research and it looks to be a flywheel issue with the AA adapter and the larger LSx flywheel and starter
