1997 Tacoma SX v6 5sp TVS1320 supercharged 300 HP! Haltech ECU, Reg Cab 750,000 Build

How hard was it to tune it? Notice any change in mileage?

 

It’s essentially a new ECU for the truck,
SO it really has to be setup by Gabe SNPSPEED.COM with a remote tune because he knows all the in and outs of the wire harness differences with all the different ECU changes.
my setup is running a little rich still at 10.5 AFR, needs a few adjustments so me millage 25 less per tank.
Gas mileage will be a little less , that's what the OEM ECU does is hold back power for better mileage

 

Hi John, so did you have to buy the harness apart from the haltech kit? Or did everything come together?
Very interested in this setup, but sweating the price tag

 

It is pricey,
But it’s the ultimate fix for the supercharger issues with support getting a perfect tune and a much better power band.

if you buy the setup from GABE it includes the wire harness.
Seems the ECU wire setup was changed every other year or so, so this has to be addressed.

If you did sell your truck later you probably could get half your money back by reselling the haltech.

it’s also very easy to switch back and forth to the stock ECU or back to the haltech.

I actually sent the haltech back to GABE last month and had him setup a dual map,
1) So now I have one map that runs a perfect AFR all the time regardless for winter cooler temperatures.
2) a 2nd map that will be tuned with the methanol to keep the supercharger temps in check for summer and
a rocker switch to switch maps on the fly.
The rocker switch I attached next to the scan gauge.

also had him wire a patch so the scan gauge is working with the haltech

 

, now just have to find a place for all those wires behind the dash,
Because I don’t have an airbag I will probably use that area

 

Added the marlin crawl short shift to the 5 speed.
It reduces the shift throw by 40 percent ,

Just passed the 700,000 mark and got some new BFG KO2 tires!
Changed all the running gear oil and engine,
Diff front and rear, transmission, tcase, supercharger,
New ac compressor and condenser,
New starter just because,
New belts including supercharger,
Should be good for another 100k

 

New TACOMA PRO type grille fits perfectly!

I have a base 1989 SC 4x4, 22re, no tachometer, with 300,000 miles...I'm the 2nd owner. I'm keeping it stock, but have refreshed the fluids and all the drivetrain issues and engine head gasket because it set a long time before I purchased it and ran a little hot as I was resurrecting it.

Right now, I am interested in knowing if the seats are still meeting your expectations???
I need to do something about my bench seat, it is starting to unravel and I want to upgrade to something a little more sportier and comfortable.

This old truck keeps running and I love driving it.

The seats LG1 are doing great still,

BUT the bolsters on the drivers left side I had to get reinforced.
The bolsters are tall and they keep you sucked into the seat and you end up dragging all your weight over them.
Otherwise all is good with them

 

I didn't want to derail the AEM fuel pump thread too much haha, so stalking you here.

I forgot to add to the E85 convo, something I've always been interested in if going standalone is putting to test the many megasquirt threads I've read of people tuning for MPGs and gaining a lot (non E85 related but there is cross over, in fact some good articles about Volvo's flex fuel cars getting really good E85 MPGs due to Volvo's tuning).

I believe the trov notes are:
- lean cruise A/fs + even more advanced timing in these regions (lean alone will not gain MPGs, the timing is crucial)
- Lots of MPGs to be gained because emissions tuning is counter to efficiency. Emissions tuning has reduced NOx output but at the cost of MPGs (got this from the smog check tuning chats on megasquirt forums). If you are gunning just for MPGs there is a lot to be gained. Read of some Ford Focus or something getting into the 50 MPGs (mixed driving!)

Just something to get some $$ back from your investment with the gas prices these days and going forward.

Long-overdue,
But finally got a set of 2” OME springs for the rear with grease zerk shackles.
Added a spacer to the drivers side to eliminate the taco lean also.
Finally leveled the rear to match the kings upfront

 

Upgraded the wires with the big 7 pack,
Clean kit!

 

Replaced the old original TRD FMU with a much more reliable vortech 3:1 ratio
This guy works great for the supercharger raising the fuel pressure

 

Because of the lift Got a rear brake proportioning valve.
Has 1/2” steps made of 1/4 steel
