Horizontal on your lights. Vertical looks like a junky Buell. The Cycra guards/flags are built like tanks.

Seems to be the consensus! If I don't get to it before this weekend, I'll mock it up both ways and have pictures of the lights on the bike. Aluminum is easy enough to work with, thankfully!

Lights are going on horizontally! Hooray decisions! Thanks for the push everyone.

Anyway! Had to replace my u-joints on my truck this weekend. And had to work today... So very little got done on the bike. I did true up and weld the front fairing, but got cut short to help a lady friend in need.

    All in a day's work!

Lights will be on tomorrow though, then I can tackle the hardest part.... Wiring.

Also, anyone have a decent bike battery to recommend? Personal experiences are appreciated!

    Thanks all! G'night!

    Uh, an XR doesn't use/need a battery.

It didn't have one, yes, you are correct. But I'm adding one. I want to hear some opinions on a decent battery. I have too much stuff going on with the new electrical system to rely solely on the stator, even though it's a 200w eline. I have a reg/rectifier to covert it from ac to dc, and the battery will keep the lights lit when the engine is idling or at low speeds on the trails at night. It'll also help smooth out the current so the headlights don't flicker.

@FirstGen Jer you have any suggestions?

I run the least expensive AGM I can find on Amazon in my DRZ with good results. Just where are you going to mount this battery? With that good stator, you don't need/want a battery. Now, you're at 300lbs.

Plus, this bike has no charging circuitry, what will tell the stator to stop charging the battery. On a long ride (given you start with a fully charged battery) you'll just toast it. Not trying to be a dick, just trying to help.

    I appreciate it man!

I have a regulator/rectifier which converts the AC coming from the stator to DC so it will charge a battery. Assuming everything gets wired correctly and the stator and R/R are both functioning properly, it shouldn't overcharge the battery.

I looked at agm, the ytx12-bs might be a prime candidate! I also saw at my local auto parts store they have trailer brake batteries which are really small, comparatively, and would probably be a good option to consider.

As far as location, there is some room to play with under the seat. I've contemplated putting it in the air box, but I think I will likely put it in a custom case mounted under the rear subframe by the shock.

Got'cha. Maybe a capacitor type system would work for you then? Way smaller and lighter. Again, if your sporting a 200watt stator I just don't see the need, but I'm old and slow. BTW, I found a pic of my old one the day I sold her. A sharp eye will find a very unique mod.image.jpg

Your fork tree? Looks different to me, but My eyes aren't too sharp... :( nice looking bike by the way!

The stator and R/R should work fine. I'll wire it without the battery first, and if it needs one it'll be easy enough to add one! Appreciate the knowledge @t4daddy!

image.jpg Nailed it, I scored a 1 1/8 bar top clamp for just a bit more than cheesy adapters. Ran Azonic Doublecross bars in LaRocco bend in them. Plus (it's very hard to see in that photo), I made some brackets that bolted to the triple clamp to tie my bark busters into. The weird bars made using a standard clamp impossible.

    Yay! I win! What's my prize? :D

But that's really cool actually. definitely more beefy than the adapters I have for the pro taper bar...

Then started to figure out the rat's nest of wires... And start putting things in place!

Did a valve adjustment, and fixed the autodecomp and lever. It was buggered. Think it may have been contributing to my low compression issue, but still need to do a comp test. Once I get the tool... Anyway! Runs strong. Installed some new goodies.

    image.jpg New Mikuni pumper carb.

image.jpg New exhaust from al bakers XRs only. Oem exhaust was fugged. Sounds good.

The pumper was by far the best mod I did on mine, that and the ohlins rear shock. Totally different bike after I brought the front up to snuff.

Somewhere down the line I'll upgrade the suspension. Pretty strapped for cash at the moment. My focus is to get it inspected and on the road so I don't have to look at it all sad in the back yard. I took it out for a test ride with the pumper and new exhaust. What a difference... hard to believe it's the same bike!

I know exactly what you mean!:bikewhoops: Everywhere it's sooo much better. I ride either the desert or up at 8500-10000ft single track and it is nothing but smiles!
It's street legal too. Another thing I have been riding with is the Nuetech tubeless tire setup for about two years and I am sold, I won't go back.

The kid before me put on the Midas e-07 dual sport tires, and they're pretty awesome! It's not super aggressive, but a nice on/off-road tire. I can't wait to take this thing on some adventures!
