My 97 4x4 2,7 5spd has 3:58 gears in it from factory....I have a chance to buy front and rear diff with 4:10 gears in em for $300....I run 33-12.50-15's......would this swap be worth the cost? My truck is an absolute pig right now.....won't get out of its own way.

    No.

While it would be a massive improvement. It would still be a dog. 4.56 or 4.88 is what you want

Leveling kit, all the plastic, UWS tool box! Don't plan to lift want it to be able to drive daily and work the woods as well!!
But for 300 for both it would be better then what you have!

Wait is the new front diff a manual hub diff? Because it will not work with your add system if it is. I wouldn't swap to manual hubs either especially if it's warn hubs. The cvs are weaker.

And if your doing a lunchbox locker it may be sorta simple. But an arb/tjm won't be. You'll have to re dial in the gears. Not an easy task.

And it won't be simple haha pulling the front diff alone is a bitch.

Wouldn't it be fine if it's just the center dropout section?
Edit, I meant just the diff section with the R&P, I know it's not a drop out design.

Why are the cv's considered weaker?

One of the tulips are weaker and the shaft also is smaller.

I don't think so. The tube needs the pin and I don't think there is one in a manual hug diff. It's just a straight shaft.

They are manual hubs....my truck came with manual hubs.....I'm no novice when it comes to wrenching...... All things considered this will be an easy swap.I am doing a lunch box locker but dialing in the gears isn't a problem either.I have found no research on the fact that the cv's are weaker.....I wheel mine extremely hard on rocks and in mud.....boots have been busted since I got the truck...pack em with grease before every ride and I'm good
