I recently bought a 1998 tacoma 2.7l manual. Since I bought it the tachometer has always worked, but just seems to be off by about 1000. anyone know how to calibrate it? heres a video of the problem - please ignore the power steering whine haha

I can tell you right from key-up that the needle is not positioned correctly. When you key up it should point right at, or just a tiny bit below the zero RPM mark.

Remove the cluster, remove the lens, and then plug the cluster back in. Remove the needle. Start the truck, use an OBDII device to display engine RPM. Place needle back on an validate that it's calibrated close enough to your liking. Once you're happy, remove the cluster, install the lens and then reinstall everything back into the truck. When you pull the cluster it would be a good time to check all of your bulbs and validate they work prior to putting the dash back together.
