Had to tow my Tacoma today, started it this morning using the remote start and went out to run a few errands. When I got back into the truck and tried to start it the dash lit up as normal, heater fan came on as did the stereo, but nothing when I turned key to the start position. I also tried with the remote start and same thing. The only thing out of the ordinary besides not starting seems to be am intermittent dimming of the clock with the key in the start position and a series of clicks from behind the dash when I used the remote start. With the remote start everything on the dash comes on as would be expected then shuts down with a series of clicks. I'm waiting now for things to dry out before I start crawling around under it, was wet and cold here today, any ideas what to look for would be appreciated, I haven't found anything on the forum that quite coincides with this problem.

I had a similar problem a few years ago, and lucked out. It turned out to be the starter relay. Got two from a PnP wrecker, and kept the other as a spare.

Got it started after putting it on charge for a couple of hours, battery shows about 11 volts when the engine isn't running and at idle the alternator is putting out a bit under 13 volts. When I disconnect the ground from the battery while it is running it still runs fine and the voltage from the alternator is a touch over 12 volts, so I'm thinking the battery even though it is only a couple years old. Alternator is also only a couple years old, so new battery tomorrow and see how it goes, maybe time for a high output alternator.
