I live in Cow Town, OK. I bought mine in Colorado Springs, though my original plan was to buy one back home in FL. First a truck in Panama City, then another one back home in Tampa. They both were sold from under me, so I wound up with the one from CO, but I was ready to get to AZ/CA for a NO RUST truck.

I'd do it again in heartbeat, I love buying rust free cars, and I'm a sucker road trips...

I guarantee you... the buyback program for the 95.5 through 2000 Tacoma trk continues.
And the warranty period remains the same - 15yrs from the date of first service/first use (same thing). In other words, when the particular truck was first registered. I.e. - If a '98 trk was sold to a customer 11/15/1997, then the buyback would be good until 11/15/2012.
"Date of First Service" is the operative term. (unfortunately, getting all dealerships on the same page continues to be a problem)

But you are correct that Toyota controls this 'voluntary' program and could change the criteria in the future.

:( I know! I wish I could have stored it away in some barn and used it as a farm truck but i don't have a farm which sucks too. Ultimately I believe it would have been fixable and a great truck if "restored".

Does anyone have a holy frame and still get it to pass state inspection?

Another quick question. @ 15 yrs of age, could I have made this a "classic" vehicle? I hear with classic tags, I wouldn't have had to get it inspected, however, can only drive it 5,000 miles/yr maximum. <-- i would have kept my rust hole'd Truk!

    one more,
Statistically, how many of these frames actually failed while people were driving? I think my odds were fine for the next 10 yrs if I preserved the metal from the rust... How hard is it to counter rust & does Por-15 work?

Now that I am completely aware of this issue I see the big picture more clearly. Humans are afraid of rust!
Guys, we can fight rust and win!! :bananadead:

Well you were a month late. I traded my 2000 in for a 2011 leftover. I got $4800 for it. Would have gladly sold it to you for $8000. It has spent it's life in the south and I was original owner. It had 209,000 miles on it. It also just passed the rust test 3 days before I traded it in. There wasn't a bit of rust anywhere on it. Has the toyota manual moon roof and 4x4. Only thing different from yours was the push button 4wd. Too bad. I would have loved to sell it to you. Would have gotten my payments on the 2011 down to $200 a month. :)

No push button 4WD would have been the deal breaker ;) Why would you trade that awesome truck with No Rust for a lousy 2011 leftover? Just the size and way the 1st gen handles, gives u enough reason to never trade it in. Can you trade back the 2011 for your 2000?

Just talked to Spartan Toyota here in Lansing. Said my frame was not eligible for the recall. Couldn't find any reasons. Weird. Guess I'll have to call around and figure out why.

What year do you have? Did you check to see if your VIN # falls within the toyota extended warranty/recall range? Where is Lansing?

It's a 2002. Don't know how to check the VIN. Lansing is the capital of Michigan.

No. They won't even look at it. That's the problem. I might have to take it to Ann arbor to get it looked at. It has a tiny amount of rust.

Edit: I was informed by 2 dealerships now that the good will program has ended. If you did not get your 2001-2004 Tacoma in to a dealership to get inspected/sprayed/replaced by March 31, 2011, you are no longer covered. If you DID get it in under the deadline, your frame is warrantied for 15 years. Luckily, my frame is pretty nice.
