Nitrate chloride, or some crap like that! But my truck came from Colorado Springs. COL Springs gets the LOWEST amount of precipitation (rain or snow) in CO.

You could say that I go lucky, but yeah U R right, they do use a "salt"...

Just not a lot, as must of the snow stays in the Western Slope, and the majority of CO's population is on the Eastern slope!

Does anyone know if toyota will still honor this recall? I brought my truck in a few years ago when the recall happened and was told i had some surface rust but thats all. Yesterday i was told that my frame has enough corrosion that it may become hazardous. Is the 15 year warranty from when i had my frame checked at toyota or from the year it was made?

From what I know it ended last month for mine, a 1998. It could be different for every vehicle but, again I'm not sure if it is based on each individual VIN manufacturer date..

15 years from 'date of first service', in other words 15 years from when it first rolled away from the selling dealer's lot with the happy first owner.

NOT the the date it was manufactured. Any Toyota service department could tell you from your truck's VIN when the date of first service was and do basic math to determine if it would still be within the time frame for buyback.

I just received a hefty chunk of change from Toyota Canada for my 99 Tacoma. Since there is alot of confusion and heresay about this issue I thought I would contribute my story, maybe it will help someone.
Bought the Tacoma privately 4 years ago, it had a beautiful frame, no rust. The reason was a resent frame coating from Toyota, I looked no further. Drove it for 50,000km and noticed frame rust, poked it and voila hole in the frame. My research indicated any hole in the frame from rust condemns the frame.
I called Toyota Canada about 5 different times, the frame rust issue is called a campaign and not a recall. They will take your VIN and tell you if you are eligible. I am not a lawyer so I am not capable of explaining every clause they have, just call and ask if your VIN is eligible.
I then called several dealerships and asked if they where familiar with the frame rust campaign because I figured they would know how to proceed. I brought the truck in for an inspection. FAIL. They took pictures and said they would send a package away on my behalf. I requested to see the "package" and was told no. 2 hours and the manager let me see the documentation. All I wanted was to see the campaign that stated the clauses of eligibility.
After 3 weeks Toyota Canada called to ask if I would accept the offer of wayyyy more than 1.5 times the value. I accepted and asked what I could keep off the truck (Canopy,Tires, Radio, Inverter, Hitch). The answer was it needs to be returned similarly to what it was driven of the lot like. However you want to take that.
Another 3 weeks and I get a call from the dealership, cheque is in. Signed the registration, got handed the cheque.
This was my experience so take it as is.

    Hey MDog,

I see you're in BC, like me (I'm in Kamloops)! Which dealer did you bring it to? I have a '01 and my local dealer is really $h!tty to deal with so I didn't bring it in to them (worried that they'd charge me). I have a US-spec one and I"m basically caught in the middle. Called both Toyotas (Can and US) and they both basically told me I'm SOL. Maybe your dealer is better? My mechanic took the box off and he can easily pound a hole thru the frame with a hammer! Not very confident in driving it now! Been searching for a frame and may have one in Kelowna. Or maybe I'll bring it into the dealer / a dealer and have some service done on it and see if they "stumble" upon it.......
