Ive got a new aftemarket handle to be installed ($12.00) but the shop guy quotes me nearly $500 to order and install a new latch. Says the latch will fail eventually so no point in installing a new door handle at this time.

Is it me or is that nuts?? $500?

I think he is nuts. The common failure on these is the door handle assembly. I have no idea what thread it was that I posted it, but I had a post somewhere that showed photographs of the failure on these handles. No need to replace the latch on the door. Just the handle.

That being said you could easily do it yourself in your driveway in about 30 minutes.

well, this is the 2nd door handle Ive replaced on the driver side. Should last a couple of years Im guessing as thats how long the first replacement lasted....plastic crap.

My real concern is the door latch on the passenger side. I already have a new handle for that side to be installed at some point.
