    I got a 1999 PreRunner
    V6, auto, extended cab, camper.
Got it from a friend who's moving to the lower 48.
    Good condition.
    Front bumper is rusty.
    Aren't they all.
One rust spot on the drivers side roof.
Other than that, everything is good.
    How are these things?????
    Any trans problems????
It drive OK, but is a little to high for my liking.
Can it be lowered about 6"?????
Also, does anyone make larger outside mirrors?????
    They seem way to small.
I've done work on it in the past, so I know what has been done.
Debating if I should keep it or not.

    4 run, 2 don't
Only you can decide if you should keep it or not; we have no idea what your intended use consists of and even then, our suggestions would be subjective.

Frame rust is the one thing to look out for on these, not bumpers. Specifically the area in the rear of the frame above the front leaf spring hanger.

As for the Aisin transmission, they're stout.

Lowering a vehicle a whole 6" is significant, you don't list what's done or show pictures. How does anyone know what you're dealing with?

Figure out what you're trying to ask first, and how others can help you make an informed decision, by providing in-depth detail or pictures...

It's going to be used like a regular truck.
    On road only.
No heavy hauling. Has a camper on it.
Getting old and hopping up to get in might become a problem.
Lowering just to make it easier to get in.

I have found a step is much cheaper and easier then lowering a vehicle that might have some sort of lift kit.

Then a portable step can be used on any vehicle is great.

Getting old and your body failing is not fun no matter how much fun you had getting to that point .

Although all air ride Suspension might be fun to have all the air dump and body sit almost on the ground though that would be harder on me much easier to step up then down.

Has it been lifted with aftermarket stuff?

If so, going back to stock height and adding steps may solve your problem.

I agree with others. If there is visible rust at bumpers and such I'd be very concerned about frame rust. Check that out well before spending a dime on it.

I checked the frame and see no rust.
All the Tacoma's I see here all have rusted bumpers.
    Plus they are very thin.
It's all stock. Only regular maintenance done on it.
Small dents here and there. Paint faded, but not pealing.
Last Toyota I had was a 1986 SR5 Turbo extra cab, 5 speed.
    Bought it new.
Great truck, but the body just rusted away.
Truck now is a 1999 Frontier, extra cab, 4cl, 5 speed.
Kind of liking the auto trans.
