    Hi folks!

So my wife bought a 99' that ran great for about 6 months. Recently, the power steering blew up. Fluids filled with metal shavings, all sorts of glorious issues. Quote to replace the whole system is a couple grand.
I deleted the system on one of my other older vehicles. I was curious if anyone has a write up for this anywhere? Looked around and haven't seen anything. I figure for as light as these trucks are it actually shouldn't be bad to drive at all if done right.

I've driven without the PS......and its tougher than you think...
so tough I think it will tear out your universal joint on your steering shaft eventually....plus there's a break away on that steering shaft....if you break it, your in trouble....tack weld time....

when its moving its not so bad.....

Finding a manual rack and pinion is the hardest part, they are very rare. Rockauto only rebuilds existing units.

You need a proper geared rack to run with no pump, simply deleting the lines isn't enough to be livable.

Basically you'll need to repair it with power steering parts.

My guess is the hilux parts over seas would have what you want.....asins dont like auto any thing ......
    but finding what fits what......

Rock auto and a bunch others sell aftermarket racks that start south of $500....
if there was a warranty...I'd roll the dice.......

I agree, try to DIY rebuild/ replace the PS pump and lines, it’s not an overly complicated system

Thanks folks, some stuff to look at. Trying to now dump a pile of cash on this, but, that may be inevitable.

My little hatchback the delete was easy, was hoping for a repeat haha.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I can guess your quote was all Toyota New Parts at List plus Labor.

Replace the pump flush the lines and Rack unless you have been driving the truck with the rack full of pump parts .

Then even this might be beyond your skills at this time.

    Good luck

If you're hell bent on it, getting super skinny tires will make it easier to turn.

I just did the bushings on my rack....it came out super easy...
but I have the rwd and didnt have cv's or wide LCA in my way...

The hoses were more a PIA because of all the clips holding it...
and expensive, those 2 hoses cost me south of $300 and had to be ordered.....
