What’s the cost to replace the rear window on the 1st Gen Tacoma?

Would a normal auto glass shop be able to get the parts?

Is it dumb to diy it?

I would think a glass company could source the glass. Call a couple of them and find out. Have you tried your "Google Fu" to find a you tube video. I"m sure there's one out there.

    Depends on who's doing it.

I'd be shocked if they couldn't.

Depends on how handy you are and probably if you have someone to assist who is also handy.

Free if your insurance covers glass replacement.

DIY would be quite difficult alone. The safelite guy actually asked for my help when he did mine. You need a lot of pressure in different areas on both sides as you pull the seal.

    Doesn't it just pop out?

The outer rubber seal is what holds it in place.

I did mine. It's not quite as easy as YouTube videos would have you believe, even with the right tools, but granted the videos I looked at were done on old junkyard Chevys and the like. Got it out okay, dish soap helped, then got the replacement in with some persuasion and the thin rope method, but even still the rubber lip wasn't perfect in places, namely the corners.
I then had a local shop reseat it and it leaked in a couple spots. (This was a slider window) I ended up not wanting a slider though so I ordered a solid window, went over to the shop, had them pop it in with a new gasket I'd bought as well, wasn't expensive, under a hundred bucks but I'll have to check if I can find the receipt, then I got home and hose tested and sealed some of the spots in the gasket where I saw a drip or two. Been good since, and that was a few years back. I love not having a sliding window, the view is way better.

At the time you could snag em cheap on RockAuto, but they were gone last I looked so eBay is the best. (I haven't looked in a long time and I was looking at solid panels)
