I am PCSing (moving in the military) to the DC area. I bought a 5x8 cargo trailer (weighs 684lbs empty) to move a few things myself. I am not sure what my truck weighs empty (2001 x-tra cab 4x4 v6 5spd) but my combined weight is 7060lbs (truck/trailer/cargo). I haven't figured my gas mileage on my first leg yet but will post it later. My first leg went from Little Rock, AR to Mountain Grove, MO. It was mostly hills/small mountains (A LOT of downshifting to third gear) and speeds of 50-60MPH.

My trip from Mountain Grove, MO (just east of Springfield, MO) to Bethesda, MD netted an estimated 14.75 MPG towing the above listed load, A/C was on and off as needed--never on for more than 10 minutes. Not too bad I figure. Going through WV and west MD mountains sucked! Many times we were in 3rd praying for 45-50 MPH! I did reach 15.7MPG while going through WV after using an octane boost additive. I can't say for sure that it caused the increase or not, but interesting to note. BTW, gas is more expense out here than out in Ark/Mo area...as if y'all didn't know that already!
