Does anyone know if a 1GR-FE engine will bolt into a 2008 -2013 2nd generation Highlander?

I guess it could be made to fit as it's dimensionaly similar to the 3.5L 2GR-FE but the electronics that run it are different.
Why would you want to go the the trouble to do such a swap when the 3.5L 2GR-FE that comes in the Highlander is nearly the same engine and makes the same if not more power than the 4.0L 1GR-FE?

Because I have a four cylinder Highlander, and the 1GR is the most reliable Toyota V6 , I could do the 2GR

I would think the hassle of an engine swap for a highlander wouldn't be worth it ...... if you were to do a swap I'd just find a wrecked 3.5 and swap everything from the donor highlander as opposed to trying to convert to an engine it never had. I only say this because you'd likely be trailblazing that swap on your own as I doubt there's a huge highlander engine swapping community.

The 2GR is just as reliable (it's nearly identical to the dual VVT version of the 1GR 4.0 found in the late model 4runner but the 2GR-FE 3.5L is designed for FWD platforms where the 1GR-FE 4.0L is designed for RWD platforms) and it would be a much easier swap since it originally came in the Highlander.
It would be best to have a donor vehicle to do such a swap because your gona need the wiring harnesses and PCM at a minimum as well, I'm not sure if the transmission, engine mounting points, and subframe are the same or not.
