hi guys, I have an 05 with a suspected head gasket (cold start misfire, losing coolant)

I’m currently have the valve covers off. I notice the cam phasers appear to be 1/2 teeth off with the crankshaft pulley lines up on the 0 mark of the timing cover. The timing cover is still attached.

This truck was purchased used with 150k miles and currently has intermittent P0301 code. The cams already have paint on them, someone was inside this engine or do they come like this from the factory? Also can the 0° mark on the timing cover be used to set the timing?
