If Toyota says you can't mill these heads, how come there are so many reman. heads available online?

They are probably only rebuilding heads that don't need milling, or they're doing it anyway against manufacturer's advice, or they're not checking. Or one of each, depending on how they feel that day.

These days a LOT of "rebuilt" heads, blocks, even entire engine assemblies are not particularly trustworthy. Sucks. Not just engines - transmissions, racks, anything. Good enough to get it put together and then stall your warranty claim by blaming the install or forcing you to pay shipping back to get another dubious part.

This pretty much sums up the majority of the reman parts business, it could be just barely in spec or even slightly out of spec and they will still ship it along with the cheapest parts/gaskets/materials that will still get the job done.

The reason Toyota reccomends not to mill the heads/deck the block is because changing the height of the cam gear in relation to the crank gear affects cam timing, not by much but enough that you could end up with timing codes.

YES, I recently found out about Cometic and visited their website. Definitely I would talk to a machine shop first.

I get a few drops of coolant by no. 1 cylinder during a cold start-up and then it stops as the engine warms up. No coolant in the oil.

I know it is sad, even brand new suspension parts with lifetime warranties failing early, but they don't reimburse me for my labor.

Just curious, how did you diagnose this? Just by seeing localized "steam cleaning" in a certain spot in that cylinder? Or a coolant system pressure test + visual borescope inspection?

last March I was rebuilding the front end before getting new tires. Somehow I noticed some crusty pinkish/crust under the manifold. At that point I said to myself don't worry about it yet until I take care of the current problem.
About two months ago I noticed the "scab" was growing although only slight coolant loss, none on the ground, and none in the oil.
So I blasted it with hot water cleaning it all away. I discovered upon cold start up it only drips a few drops of coolant while it warms up.
