I didn't mean this debate which oil. It was merely an objective document that provides information (useful or not)

I've used Mobile 1 since new. I changed my oil every 10K up to 190,000 miles which ended up being about once every 6 months. For the last 20,000 miles I only drive about 10K per year now so I still go with changing it every 6 months. It just works out to be closer to 5K now. For me, it wasn't so much saving money, as time. Before I retired I worked some odd hours. For about 1/2 the year I would work 70-80 hours/week and at least 6 days/week. Other times of the year far fewer hours. Keeping up with 3 vehicle oil changes making all of them go twice as long between oil changes was a big deal. When I did get some time off I didn't want to spend all of it changing oil.

The truck has never used a drop of oil between changes, even the 10K oil changes.

There are several folks who have gone 400,000 miles using 10K oil changes. At least one with 900,000 miles.

so you have over 190k ? And you only started doing 5k mile changes because of time , and would still be doing 10k Oil changes if it weren’t for other reasons

I've had them tell me to back off on mileage - they were finding some funky stuff in my samples and wanted reduced oil change intervals while we figured it out. Unfortunately, never figured it out - the engine threw a rod before I found the source of the issue.

I'm a huge fan of Blackstone, I use them on all of our vehicles at every oil change. Not only can I confidently increase my oil change interval but it gives me peace of mind that nothing else is going on. I like the extended oil change intervals because it saves me time, money and maybe most importantly, helps the environment and reducing our use of fossil fuels. When I was driving 20-25k/yr I started testing and went from 6k up to 12k intervals (stepping up about 2k each time I changed the oil, got the results then went further for the next one). I ended up selling the car before I determined what the max interval was. 3k mile intervals are a joke, that's what the oil companies want and that is OLD. Honda was recommending intervals twice that long at least 30yrs ago, it's nothing new.

With that said, I don't plan to stretch the interval on my Tacoma. I don't think I'll put more than 3-4k/yr on it since it's not my daily driver.

same here...light goes off at 5k oil/filter change and drop off discount tires balance/rotate tires. thinking about doing it once a yr been driving alot less than 10k miles but its just more manual tracking mileage plus dont want oil in car for too long of period.
