    OK..

What does all that massive work & expense get you in WHP at the dyno?

The original turbo kit setup was like $3500 turned on HP tuners. It was making 330hp
I upgraded the turbo, injectors, fuel pump, and switched to haltech elite. Base run was 352 whp, end run it made 482whp
It threw a rod on 2step one day and I made the decision to build a motor instead of buying a whole stock engine. The engine build from when it blew up to this date total including every single part and thing in the engine bay and upgrades in parts was about $7700..
So from stock to what it is now I'm over 11k in. But I've had this truck since 2017, and started the turbo setup in 2020

Dayyum. At 330 hp for the original turbo setup that's an excellent $-to-HP-gain ratio compared to the TRD supercharger. Although I'd guess most of that gain comes in the upper RPM band, so not much benefit for low-RPM torque.

After exploding the engine at ~480HP, after rebuilding are you now running with some safety margin around 400 HP?

Well this motor is built to handle power. The goal is to get it tuned soon. I have a power goal and a psi limit. My goal is to make 550-600 but my boost limit is to not exceed 14.5 psi

I turbo’d the 5vz in my third gen 4Runner and absolutely love it. People talk about turbo lag, but running a smaller turbo (GTX3071 in my case), it spools up QUICK and makes great power. I’m running 7psi, but the intercooler cooling down the air charge means more power than a supercharger at the same 7psi. Makes towing my boat around so much easier, and traveling through the mountains a breeze. Wish someone made turbo manifolds for the 1gr. I don’t have the fab (welding) skills to make my own. If someone made some, I’d probably upgrade to a newer truck.

Got it all broken in, or waiting for the tuner to have an open spot?

I've made quite a few manifolds. Still perfecting the design. Should be making another setup for another member soon. All custom though.

2250 or 2500, is what I am doing for my friend's truck. I am sure he remembers. I think he is going with a Garrett GTX30.. ,or GTX35.. Been quite a while since we've gone over the details. He wants response but enough flow for around 600whp.

I have an all inclusive BorgWarner EFR 9180. Good for 1k HP. I am only using a fraction of its capability because I have it only at 10psi. Needs a professionally polished tune. And a new transmission. Mine is a bit noisy. If I wanted more response instead of all mid to top (with this engine size) I do no higher that their 8k series. Having the wastegate and BOV or even just the BOV packaged in, is very very nice.

Disclaimer: I know very little about boosting an engine.....
BUT, if I were going to do mine, and I've thought long and hard about it, I would seriously consider mounting the turbo in the bed, right behind the cab. It would take the place of the muffler and would live in a louvered 'tool box'. This would get you past the custom manifolds dilemma, but of course, would introduce a few others.
Turbo lag because of the distance from the engine... so what? I grew up riding two stroke dirt bikes. Switched to an XR650R for a brief period a few years back. The Mikuni pumper carb was highly recommended because it had an accelerator pump in it and throttle response was instantaneous. I considered it a waste of money. If you needed to lift the front end over an obstacle, you learned to whack the throttle a quarter of a second earlier. Just my opinion.

Do a remote turbo and let us know how it works!!!

Yeah, no, front mount turbo only for me. Want to be able to gravity drain the oil back to the pan. No desire to mess with pumps and that crap to scavenge oil from the turbo.

Hehe, @Torspd did the above and realized the STS remote turbo kits were no bueno. Thus, he took the path of making custom manis.

I just recently got my truck back in January, I had a custom turbo kit built/fab./tuned and equipped with all the fuel upgradeds needed from a shop up North.... it was ran for over 3k miles before return and I'm still running it kind of daily. The builder is definitely professional and was prescise on the build...it is still a learning progress for me.... I previously had a TRD supercharger set up with mods, I ran that SC for like 10 years with no issues and i definitely enjoyed it... I will say this though, with the same mods i had the turbo reached better Dyno #s and noticeable power over a TRD SC.... never got answer on how much power the Procharger will put out on the 4.0.... im still curious
