You cannot rebuild a fuel injector. They are welded together and then molded in plastic. At best you can clean the outside and replace the inlet and outlet o-rings. If it is sticking open or closed all you can do is replace it.

I'm almost there with you Badger. I want to stay away from a sh*t fest but the fact that I have had to upgrade so much if I want to add a winch, protect the radiator core support, add bedside supports, diy cure of drive line vibes, upgrade the alignment cam tabs off the lot, front diff side bearing(s), strengthen the front spring tower, and on-and-on. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the truck but so much should have occurred at the design level a long time ago...

You can pull lower oil pan and scope the bottom of the cylinders, look for a reddish stripe on the cylinder wall, like something seeping down. That would be the fuel seeping past the rings. Putting a scope in the spark plug hole never really showed that.

Just buy some gaskets, pull the intake and rail and check the injectors. If you need to replace them, you can pickup used OEM from people who have done engine mods, etc pretty cheap. I got a set from a member once for like $60.

For what it's worth my '06 1GRFE had an injector stick open once. All of the symptoms upon start up (slow cranking, took a few tries to fire up, big cloud of black smoke and running rough for 5-10 seconds). When changing the oil I often thought it smelled like fuel. I also had some type of internal failure or wear that caused a very pronounced rattle on cold starts that only quieted down when up to full temp. That said I ran it like that from 180,000 to 260,000km with no failure.
