I have a set and have bolted a wheel up to test fitment on my 97 Tacoma 4x4 with the 2.7.
I am pretty sure the center bore is large enough to fit over the hub and from looking through the holes for the lug nuts they appear to be flush with the surface and not stuck on the hub.

Anybody heard of running old wheels on a newer vehicle? I can only find threads of people running newer wheels on older vehicles.

I found this info about my wheels, they are the 15x7. What is the diameter of the front hubs on the 1st gen?

4-3/4" back side spacing on '86 and later wheels, 15x6 steel or 15x7 alloy
Center bore diameter: 4-3/8" (111mm) ID
To fit over front hubs which are approx. 4-1/4" (108mm) OD
And of course this implies a lug-centric wheel since the center bore is larger than the hub
    6 on 5.5" bolt pattern
    M12x1.50 thread pitch studs

Just the norm skids, sliders, & 35's
Those should fit fine. I ran the steel 1st gen wheels for a good little while. I'd be worried about caliper clearance if anything.

I ran those wheels on my '98. They will fit fine on your '97 and look good.

Those were the original BFG Mud Terrains. What folks nowadays refer to as KM1s. The size was 32x11.5r15s
