1st gen Automatic shift knob swap

Has anyone put an aftermarket knob for a first gen automatic?

 

I wouldn't think you'd be able to with the way the stock one is set up

I've seen pictures of aftermarket knobs for the Lexus SC400, which has a similar arrangement as the 1st gen Taco knob (latch button on top, OD button on the left). Something like this Levoc knob *should* work; it will require you to cut the wires to the OD switch and solder it to the new knob:

A much more radical solution right there. Looks like you picked up a couple of random t-cases too and a front diff no doubt.

 

Yeah, i was thinking i could just re locate the OD switch. cause i want a smaller cleaner looking knob.

 

the problem as Snake mentioned is how the shifter is designed.

The wiring for the OD button runs thru the shaft. the button could probably be fabbed to be replaced but would take some effort.

I have a black 4Runner shifter waiting to go in (it's the entire shift plate and arm to trans) whenever I feel like tackling it. Put a black 4wd button in as well and looks cool

 

The old lady may not be too impressed with a smaller cleaner looking knob.
