Time to buy a new battery for my first gen. What is the best battery to buy right now for deep cycle/starting? Originally i was dead set on a Optima yellow top but in the past few years ive been hearing bad things about them. This will be used with aux lighting and a winch in the future.

I keep hearing good things about X2Power batteries at Batteries + Bulbs, but they're pretty expensive. Not sure which route I will go yet, but I need a new battery soon as well.

Gotta go with the Odyssey PC-1500r fits stock uses virgin lead plates 1500hca no recycled materials! Best battery in the battery shootouts period against Optima and other high end such as XS power and more, they are made by Enersys. Northstar batts are good too, you'de have to order either not many stores carry them.

Agree with this because if it goes bad it's easy to take it back for return/replacement. I went with Odyssey last time by mail order and had to pay $100 to return it before they would give a refund when it failed. X2's are expensive, don't forget to ask the sales rep for a discount.

I'm no Walmart fan, but I've been consistently getting 5 yrs out of the Maxx-start or whatever it is called in all my vehicles. For around $100, and dealing locally, and they swap it for you, it's hard to beat. It's made by Johnson Controls, who make batteries (about 1/3 of the world supply) sold under a number of labels, including Optima. I used to be a Die Hard fan, but they got to be too expensive and did not last any longer.

A side note: The Walmart guy put the battery in wrong, if such a thing is possible. I had to disconnect it and untwist the cables, and seat the connectors all the way down on the terminals. Then reset the radio (which has about 50 settings) again, and the clock. Go figure.

Just get the best you can afford

Depends how Fast I need a battery if right now I go with Interstate dealer a few miles if a have a few days I go with a Deka Battery Second factory store about 15 miles away then gather up all my junk batteries

My interstate dealer has some used batteries (or seconds I suppose you could call them) for $50. I wouldn't run those in my daily drivers, but they are fine for my heavy equipment. He says they'll go maybe 3-4 years. Three years so far.

Northstar, or X2 Power (for those that want local) from what I've read they are rebadged Northstar.

Get a jump starter and don't be left stranded.

There are only a few battery manufactures in the US. They make low, mid, top of the line, and re-badge/case them in a different colors.
I have also had good luck with the MAXX batteries as well. One of which is in my tractor and is from 2010.

I grabbed a 24f from work. 6yr warranty, 3yrs free replacement. I drive AAA. But I didn't have a battery tech install it. The batteries are made in Pennsylvania.

Stay away from Optima batteries. They either work great and last a long time or they are crap from the get go. There’s no in between, they are either great or they are crap. They are inconsistent. I’ve been going with Walmart batteries. I have a Walmart Marine battery in my boat that gets severe use and it lasted 7 years. I currently have a Walmart battery in my Taco and it’s still going strong after 6 years.

The Odyssey batteries do last a very long time. The OP must have had some issue because Ive not seen one fail other than the rebranded die hard platinums. Notice what battery they always use on diesel bros (Odyssey)!, the truck they made flip with hydro's had at least three of em. They can take serious discharge and last 10+years of abuse. The lowrider scene that uses these holds them on a pedestal for function and aesthetics mine always gets fed 14.8 volts no probs here, and if you liked die hard platinum batts these are the same yet better. Dont get Deka they are low on the list as well as Optima. Ive seen a vid of an Odyssey rebranded as a die hard batt shot into two pieces at Sears and it still started a vehicle. By the way Deka is not a true sealed battery its about the same quality as a new Sears gold series battery. I payed 156.00 for a Sears gold, and returned it because of the discontinued die hard platinum, and not being a true sealed unit, Odyssey was almost 300.00 for a good reason not bling. I love and trust Odyssey only after buying all the top brands over the years and spending thousands on batteries no joke.

I was filled with pride when I mail ordered my Odyssey PC-1400 Extreme for almost $300. It failed after 8 months. No matter what brand you buy you can get a lemon. Since no one seems to stock Odyssey anywhere I've seen, I cannot recommend them. Buy local!

Thats sucks bad! Sorry to hear that, Ive had faith in mine so far, but did get a lemon when I had a die hard platinum back in the day, a rebranded Odyssey, the techs didn't believe me, they thought I did that on purpose... which sucked, then they proceeded to show me a vid of a die hard platinum (Odyssey) getting blown in half by an AR-15 and still starting vehicles. After an hour of their stupid battery test which my fluke meter proved was dead as hell already, they gave in and gave me another. A 100 dollar restock fee forget that!, I'd have reservations about this after that happened to me too! With that said my audiophile buddies recommended to buy interstate as they work good and have a great return policy, if you dont care if its a sealed battery, just dont drive upside down lol.
