Oh absolutely, not knocking Odyssey batteries, they are quite good, but when I was looking at replacing my dead battery X2 eaked out a win in most categories, also I couldn't find an Odyssey battery dealer close to me, and X2's warranty was better, being able to walk into any batteries plus and walk out with a new battery under warranty was a huge plus. No pun intended...

But yes Odyssey has been a high quality battery for a long time running, but I would still put them just below North Star. YMMV.

I have a carquest platinum AGM in my truck for 3yrs now, zero complaints. Supposidly it's a rebadged dekka intimidator. It sits for a few weeks in the cold between starts and cranks right over evrey time, winching it does great as well.

The truck is not a DD so it's usually sitting more days than actually getting driven.

Odyssey is North Star!, Enersys owns them; and made Die Hard platinums also. Look on bitog and other reputable sites, Ive owend their batteries for years so compare a pic of a Die Hard Platinum to those of a Northstar exactly the same grey case which is red and black on an Odyssey. Its funny you compared them thats like right Twix vs. left Twix.

    ^ This X 100000.

Quality control has been on a downward spiral for years with Optima (even before they moved production to Mexico). About the only guarantee with Optima is that they make great paper weights.

I too did this. Inexpensive, tons of good reviews, and widespread availability when the $hit hits the fan.

You got lucky then IMO. My family owns an RV dealership with a service shop. We've been authorized dealers of most brands over the years. Have always had the most problems with Optima. The best from what we've seen has been Interstate by a long shot, but as has been said, most batteries are made by a few manufacturers. All I can say with certainty is that I will NEVER shell out my hard earned dollars for an Optima.

Toytec coilovers. Height adjustable Bilstein's. 265/75/16 MT. TRD wheels. Rebuilt r150f. Marlin clutch kit. All kinds of new parts...
I replaced my tired Interstate battery about 4 months ago. Last one lasted... 12 years according to the date on the battery. That's got my business. Only says they are 5-6 year batteries.

That's good to hear. I was set on a Northstar AGM for almost $400. I was at Big O tire where I bought new Cooper ATW's last summer getting my tires rotated. They came out and said my battery was getting ready to die. I knew they weren't lying because I have a battery tester my self and knew it was weak. On an impulse buy I just had them install an Interstate Megatron because my luck with Interstate has been good in the past on another vehicle. Besides, I got well over 6 years out of the last Toyota battery and figured, how much worse could the Interstate be? Do I really "need" a Northstar for 3X the price? Maybe next time around. I'll see how the Interstate does.

3.5 years on a yellow top and ZERO issues. every manufacture sometimes has bad batches but Optimas are still quality batteries. specially when any piece of shit off the rack at autozone/oreylis is now somehow $200 even though it will die as soon as the warranty runs out.

Yeah battery prices seem out of line now at a lot of places.
