1st gen brakes suck. What improvments can be made short of the Tundra swap?

Now I don`t have ABS brakes that might be the difference??

I guess those that never had anything else never learned any other braking techniques.

Has anyone done so called brake upgrades with New Stock brakes of less then 1000 miles??

Replacing old worn brake parts with new in most cases gets one better braking performance.

When braking I try and manage to never have them lock in fact I never tried

Last couple of brake jobs have been:

    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00L7TQMJ6/
    https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C1LL96

paired with OEM shoes and drums.

Have had a couple of panic stops as well and not once felt the braking wasn't good enough to stop on a dime. Now that I've added the ARB and a little more weight to the truck, next time around I'll consider the Tundra upgrade. Even then, I'll stick with Akebono and Brembo if available. Nothing but good from those two. Oh, did I mention no break in period required with the Akebono pads?

@RysiuM, thanks for the sharing the e-brake info. Will be sure to check it out.

Here's my recent brake upgrade. The truck stops on a dime. Sometimes I "over brake" and lock up the brakes prematurely. I fear that I'll be rear ended by someone who cannot stop as quick.

Note the I have 5 cars running GG rated brake pads that all have the same stopping characteristics.

I didn't realize Akebono makes two levels of pads. I'll bet the OEM Akebono pad Toyota uses from them is a GG for sure. I think I did the FG, but fortunately my braking has been great. Well they work great to me.... it's all so much opinion, but the grade of the pads isn't opinion. Just buy the best pad you can afford going by the grades and then centric(owned by brembo, makes good stuff) or brembo blank rotors, the centrics have been great so far for me. And I think I'm using the ProACT one from Akebono

Just to experiment, I ordered a set banjo bolts from Zeckhausen Racing https://www.zeckhausen.com/ just to see how they look in real life and it they are even close to the ones that I have on the Tacoma.

I have big brakes running on one of my other cars that could benefit from new lines and I'm sure from improved flow from a larger banjo bolt.

From the picture below, it looks like StopTech Stainless lines come with the big bore banjo bolts like the one in the picture above. I like what I see here.

Though I already have two sets of stainless lines that I'm on the fence about installing. Knowing what I know today, I think these lines would be my choice.

Might want to put some kind of paint or protection on those front calipers if you don't want them to rust. That is NOT a protective coating, it's just bare casting with a little zinc on it. Give it one winter and they will be rusty.

Thanks for the tip. I'll go for some color that blends.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    Is your truck lifted?
    How much?
Did you relocate your brake proportioning valve?

Stop wasting your money on unnecessary parts and upgrades and manually adjust your drum brakes star adjuster. The E-brake does auto-adjust but only to a minimum level. I couldn't believe the difference it made when I turned the adjuster a few clicks tighter.

That what I did. Like the old days. Then drive it and tune it based on lock up behavior.
