    Folks,

I installed a Ute bed on my Tacoma and the original bumper will not fit with the tail lights installed. This is because the factory 2nd gen bumper is shaped upward on the ends, as you know. I thought of just cutting off the upward facing portions, but doing that would compromise the structural integrity of the rear bumper, and frankly, it would also look crappy if did that.

The 1st gen Tacoma has a bumper without these upward pieces. Does anyone know if a 1st gen bumper could be mounted on a 2nd gen?

Photos of a knock-off 1st gen bumper available on eBay for $120 shipped.

And a photo of the ute bed and tail lights in question.

    Thanks in advance,

    R

Just make your own or have one made. 1st gens are really different and narrower than the 2nd gens

Maybe it's just the pictures, but it doesn't look too bad as-is.

Would be too narrow. Just fab one up yourself or get one made. Rear bumpers are the easiest place to start for diy armor, and that tray you have will make it all the more easy to make something that looks good, yet is simple to make.

I used a piece of 6" channel iron on my 1st gen.
