My 2003 Tacoma started running like crap a few months ago and I had the knock sensor codes. Replaced them and the harness and got the multiple misfire code. Replaced plugs and wires and got knock sensor codes again. All the while, the truck still running like crap. Took it to dealership just to get their diagnosis and they said it had misfire codes and changed 3 plugs. Picked it up and got 2 blocks before it went back to limp mode and CEL came back on. Took it back and they pulled the supercharger and intake off and found that I had pinched the wire harness for the knock sensors under the intake. They repaired the harness and put back together. Still had knock sensor codes and told me the knock sensors were probably shorted out. I hauled it home and replaced the knock sensors again. Still runs like crap, but now it's a camshaft position sensor code. Replaced it, and then got cylinder 3 misfire code. Replaced all 3 coils because I hadn't done that yet and bam, cylinder 5 misfire code instead of cylinder 3. Checked spark, got it. Checked compression and it was 155. Checked injector and it was injecting. Used Jectron fuel injector cleaner and idle returned to normal and truck ran great, for about a half hour and a quick drive around the neighborhood. Now I'm back to the camshaft position sensor code and it's loping bad. Ready to just burn this truck to the ground. I'm guessing it's either a wiring issue or a computer? Any insight into what is causing this code jumping would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and sorry for the long story.

You’re going to need to take a systematic approach. Start by checking the sensors themselves. Are they good? Do a continuity check on the wires and check for shorts. If that’s good, check the ECU output.
