My neighbor blew the engine in his first gen taco, pulled the engine and hasn't touched it since. Im tossing around the Idea of scooping it up for scrap metal price and putting a diesel in it. Yes I am completely serious here, I would love to put a d-4d in it, but its not worth the time and hassle of finding one and parts for one. If you guys could point me in the right direction or give me advice on which engines slip in more smoothly than others it would be greatly appreciated. If the dimensions of the engine compartment are right I would prefer to but a kubota v3800 inline 4 cyl. I would really prefer to put a kubota engine in it but could use a cummins or other. Really excited to find out some info on this, the truck is a manual, If this changes the lug pattern.
Last question, how many ponnies do you guys recommend for a diesel swap, 50, 75, 100, etc?
Link to engine I want to use - http://www.kubotaengine.com/products/engines/vertical-diesel/kubota-v3-series/v3800-cr-ti-e4b

    Thanks Jared

PS This would make a great summer project, will keep you guys updated if I can get some info on the kubota engine swap Idea. Ough yea If anyone in Northwest Ohio or surrounding area has done a diesel engine swap I would love to see it.

I have followed a 4bt conversion, but really want to use a kubota. I have 4 kubota diesel engines and they run like champs! Not saying the cummins wont, but I like kubota.

Don't forget you will have to replace the tranny too, maybe suspension too if it is a little on the heavy side, would really like to see someone do it though

You have Kubota engines in vehicles or tractors?

Tractors, utvs, and generators. They get worked at high rpms for long amounts of time, and i figured what better to use since i am familiar with them already.

Oh, I was wondering if you had done a similar conversion to a vehicle in the past. I'm curious to see where this goes!

Measured my 07 2nd gen tacoma and it looks like I have about a 30x30x30 cube to shove an engine in, might have to down size the engine :(

I was going to hunt around on their forum, but its down for maintenance. I could always give them a call though. If I am not using a toyota engine would a front half make any difference?

Front halves are easier, they come with dash, front suspension and steering components, and engine. So your getting most everything your going to need to make the swap minus a lot of custom wiring. Plus your getting a Toyo designed engine made for a very similar truck.

ARB bumper, warn 9.5 winch. carbon fiber hood. Leer top with thule racks and MOAB from thule. Electric fans, blue sea fuse block, Sony dvd Head unit, Xm tuner and HD tuner. New carpet and new racing seats. ( other half doesnt like them i think). Nwor springs and adjustable coil overs. Sky jacker rear shocks. Slot and drilled rotors. Engine Titanium ceramic coated headers, no cat, jba cat back. URD Rear Sensor Simulator. Leds all around and inside cab and HID H4 hi/lo beams.
I have heard good things and bad things about the jdm motors. Its like you might get lucky then again you might have to rebuild the engine... One good thing about toyota is they do STOCK parts for those engines over here so parts are not really a issue..

As i know alot of people will jump on cummings as said. Just remember alot more cummings parts are coming out of CHINA.. Cummings will have the same problem cat did many years ago.. Sure cummings is CHEAP power but they dont call them cum-a-parts for nothing...

IMO i would stick with the toyota engine.. Parts shouldnt be too hard day or two out..

Reason for its so cheap its a AUTO.. Manuals go for ALOT MORE...

Could I pair that motor with a manual? I kinda want to stay away from the wiring harnesses thus back to the kubota engine, I also want to stay away from cum-a-parts ;)
