    Hey Bay Area Tacos,

I'm stuck at the step of trying press out the old bearings/press in the new bearings.
We couldn't quite put together the right set up on my buddy's press...so i'm stuck.

called toyota, waiting on a call back from them...Toyota said it'll be too expensive...hah

was wondering if any one can help me out on that front or recommend a shop.
    preferably round Oakland.

In between picking up steel plates from Albany steel and trying again on my buddy's HF press....or machine shop.
DIY will be cheaper...and hopefully work..or machine shop, where the guy said the shit could blow up.... yay

    thanks

We had to do this for my bros 1st generation years ago. I don't remember the details but I do remember we just gave up and just took it to a local machine shop lol. He took care of us.

machine shop guy was like the hub could get destroyed and the area the holds the circlip could get messed up...he didn't really wanna do it...
i had debated buying new hubs too...but only got the bearings.

just picked up the plates...figure i'll take my chances DIY...if it sucks, i'll end up taking it back to him or someone else...

How quickly do you need the spindles done? And would you be able to get them to Concord/Antioch?

Anytime you do the bearings, you should always replace the circlips. You have to put WAY too much force on them to get the hub to press through the bearing.

You really should also replace the inner and outer dust shields too, but the circlips are a must.

I've got a coworker that lives over near Antioch that could bring them to me if you want to take them to him and then pick them back up from him. Just an option if you can't figure anything else out.

I've done a couple sets of 1st gen wheel bearings :frusty:

    thanks, i greatly appreciate it.

yea. the bearings came with the shields so i'm good there.
just need to get a line on those circlips ASAP.
i managed to cut down a 1/4" plate to use to push out the bearings...and now i've got the outer race to use to push the new ones in.
i think i should be able to get it all back together.

we did my buddy's 2nd gen this past weekend and got started on mine...
he just bought the whole bearing + hub assembly...way easier, literally bolt on/off...
    1st gen is PIA...jeez...

I think you cqn get the circlips at O'Reilly. I know you can get in inner and outer dust shields there.

Make sure you support the inner race when you press the hub through it.

any chance your buddy in Antioch has that sleeve?
i'm gonna rummage through my scrap heap...

edit: looks like some 2.5 inch ID pipe should work
ID of bearing is 54 mm, 2.12 inches...

well, between freezing the bearings + hubs and heating the knuckle...it was a breeze getting everything back together.

both bearings came apart when we pushed them out and couldn't get the outer race off without cutting it up.
time to put it all back on the truck
