    So he'd have the ign half of idle control, but not sure how much that will help. Might have to stress the good running points in order to allow the bad points to be more ideal in order to trick the factory ECU
    This makes me thankful I have idle control on mine. The factory ECU would cutout on me before the Haltech anyway - hasn't happened in a long time now.

    I can skew a couple hundred RPM with IGN idle control without danger to anything but not sure it is much good otherwise. It would just be to bolster the idle when it gets way out of pocket for "x" reason since that map can act super fast.

    You might look into www.winwithdom.com he does haltech tunes. Being in Nevada he is fairly close.

    He said since it's starting with one of my tunes he'd do a couple of log reviews and correction/modifications free for you. Not a full in depth retune, but it'll probably get you on the road going quicker than booking dyno time and a tuner together. I'll put you two in touch PM inbound.

    Cleaning those does not always end well. If they open and close when a test voltage is applied they are best left alone.

    Why won't you use Gabe? He's done dozens of 5vz haltech tunes and knows more about what problems there are then probably anyone. Just because a tuner knows haltech doesn't mean they know how to tune the 5vz. I learned the hard way and had a haltech tuner tune my haltech before Gabe and it was a shit tune with problems he couldn't fit and was back firing terribly which I think damage an exhaust valve too,( he had the firing order mixed up) and was 1000.00
    He didn't know the 5vz and it's issues and it cost me twice as much because Gabe had to fix all the errors the previous tuner had done ( including incorrect tooth count settings)and gabes tune ended making a buch more power.

    I don't know if you've read the room, but this thread isn't big on Gabe.

    For the record though, I don't care who gets their tune from where as long as it works for them. But this thread's point is to make the information available to everyone, it started because some tunes weren't working.

    Gabe's tune out of the box was pretty fucked. Very surprising really. Almost as though it was designed that way on purpose. Sort of like a chef who designs his menu to promote a larger consumption of the beer he sells.

    I’m in agreement here. When a buddy had a startup remote session, he made corrections to the input/output settings on the tune he loaded into the Haltech before they started the tuning session. The initial settings seemed to be intentionally made, and would be a stumbling block for any novice trying to get their vehicle going.

    I'm not against it, I just wanted to know what my options were. I guess I also like keeping it within the community as well. Zane got me set up with a pretty decent tune from day one and several other members have stepped in to help keep it rolling in the right direction.

    On another note. For those that don’t have the time, or just dislike the tedious task of crimping wires for your harnesses, check out yourspec.com. I had wires made for my Haltech dash, and they turned out great. The wires can be custom labeled which makes it easier to work with. Not to mention their prices on connectors and parts are very competitive.

    Gabe had to fix the 1st tune Zane did on my setup and end results were much higher torque numbers. Zane was not able to fix the misfire at 5000 rpms so engine would not go over 5000 rpms. Gabe fixed all these issues after Zane failed on them. Not impressed with his tune.

    It's 3 years ago, I just glanced over it. If he wants to be a slave to Gabe it's his choice, I'm sure I charged nothing anyway. I don't charge and I certainly never offered to "tune". I troubleshoot and yup I couldn't cure his trigger issue, oh well. I think I'm glad I wasn't able to help now.


    Plus I make much more HP and TQ than him haha :p

    He has to pay for his tunes so it makes sense he'd feel the need to defend them. I've learned and encouraged others to learn to tune their own trucks. The door is still open to learn yourself John, no need to be salty.
