Great find! I had been to the site many times and must have completely missed it. This will be good to have when I decide to make the move to stand alone! My problem will be in the fact that I hate wiring and making a harness to run it will be my only worry. I will have to get over that though.

 

Started digging into the meat and potatoes of cold start tuning, my goal is to turn the key and have the old girl light off faster even than stock did. Lots of variables and it seems many people attack it against the methods that Haltech has posted as the most efficient.

 

A 3" silicone piece should fit over the factory plastic MAF tube if you cut it out of the airbox

 

I was going to cut the protruding MAF housing off the box and silicone one of these VAFM adapters on so I can use normal intake couplers.

Probably the more elegant way of going about it...though having a rectangular flange is a minus for me

 

Makes it easy to bolt to the airbox and reinforce from the inside, one of the big issues with taco and 4runner airboxes is the MAF housings crack off them

 

I just remembered that I have a deck plate on the front of my airbox. I haven't opened it in years.

I wonder what it'll do to performance now? I might just open it up for tomorrows drive.

You won’t be able to see much since the intercooler is black, but that was my intent. If you blow up the photo you can see some of it. Its nicely hidden

 

Haltech Elite moved to the factory ECU location. I made a bracket out of a scrap of Kydex. I really didn’t think it would work but it’s really sturdy. Kydex is amazing stuff, so many uses

 

If you can solder, you’ve got this. Get a decent soldering station and a good crimper. I bought an ECU header and soldered my wiring to it because, well, I’m cheap.

 

Dang, I think that's new documentation. I had found the maps before but not the writeup.

...it sounds really simple, but I can't tell what else besides the kit they require.

 

I sent them an email with some questions. Among them if an MS3 product could work with their Denso kit without making it a lot harder on myself.

 

I think SpeedyEFI (no affiliation with me, no seriously I know they're in Spokane, but it is based on MS and TunerStudio) sells a Denso patch

..I don't think that's a problem as much as I'm just trying to utilize the information laid out already. MS2 is provided with the connectors in a kit already: https://www.diyautotune.com/product/diypnp-nippon-denso-76pin-unassembled-kit/ , but I'd like some of the features of the newer MS3. That board could be helpful if the MS3 can't use the breakout board they already provide in this kit.

 

Either way, makes a hell of a lot more sense at 1/5th the cost of a Haltech 750, for seemingly about the same features.
