What rods is he using?

I still have Chinese manufacturers reach out to me once a year seeing if I want to order a batch of them (I need 5 people in for a group buy for the min order)

 

I was thinking they kind of look like the ones that are available on Alibaba. Honestly there's probably nothing wrong with those I have to imagine somebody requested them for an engine with similar dimensions and these guys are just selling them on the side.

 

I'm assuming unless the company selling them specifically says "Made in US" like Pauter it's drop shipped, meaning 99% of guys putting forged rods in their cars are using rods from China. That said, the price I got was extremely competitive and I'd be happy to contact them again if I got payment up front from interested parties

 

I'd order the China rods. I have a Camry forged crank already. The Pistons are actually a blank space that's filled now. Now that I know I can get them from Arias that gets me to a built engine pretty easily. We just need to find an overseas cam grinder now haha

 

I’d pick up a set. Might as well start collecting parts to build the test engine before the current one blows up.
Zane if you get a lead on another Camry crank I’d be interested as well.

Figured I'd just check in and see how everyone is doing here. I've had a week of old fashioned tuning on a OE platform (BMW 325xi) and it has reminded me how spoiled we are with Haltech. Everyone doing alright?

 

Have any of you have had to replace the wideband sensor yet? I just replaced mine after a year and a half. I hope the replacement lasts longer.
It failed abruptly, which made diagnosing the problem straight forward. Can't imagine the headache a slowly failing sensor would cause.

 

That's the big bonus of using the Haltech CAN module over one that just pipes wideband info in over an AVI. It can tell if a failure is occurring. What wideband firmware are you on? They had some longevity updates over the past year.

 

I just installed the latest wideband firmware with the new sensor. Prior to that, it was the wideband firmware that was out when the Haltech was installed in the truck. Good to hear they've made updates, hopefully it helps with longevity of the sensor.

 

Things are good. Waking the truck from it's winter hibernation for some trail action this summer. Started up no problem this morning after 3+ months of sitting
Still need to get around to pulling the SC and moving the temp sensor to post blower so I can turn on my temp correction map.

 

The one I ran with my Innovate gauge a few years ago lasted about that long.
Various things can cause premature failure - excessive vibration, carbon buildup, wrong placement/orientation, moisture ingress, poor heater control, etc.
I'd just make sure yours is positioned correctly and you buy genuine Bosch

 

Water is a big killer so is having it present in exhaust gasses but unpowered. Leaving a sensor in while testing without the electronics hooked up is a surefire way to kill a wideband.

 

Ya so you want it pretty close to a heat source (1-2 feet from your collector) pointed sky high ideally... I'm guilty of it not in the best place

 

Yeah it can be a fight with those things, mine fits right behind the head before the firewall. It's close and relatively protected from anything else. But vibration, well who knows. If they can survive two-step rev limit I'd hope they can survive my setup.

 

Ya that's a great spot, I need to move mine up there next time I have the downpipe off. Cerakote would be nice too. How well does it help the heat? Better than a wrap or about the same?
