I’ve recently bought the King 2.5 coil-overs. They are not the extended travel ones. I’ve had some issues with the ride height. I have 33inch tires and an ARB bumper up front. At the stock height of the coil-overs my tires rub like crazy. So I adjust the preload, tires don’t rub, but the coil-overs don’t feel nearly as good. So I’m in a predicament here. Good ride quality and bad rubbing. Or bad ride quality but no rubbing. What are some things I can do here? I might just sell these kings and go the cheaper route and get 5100’s with a strut spacer if it will ride the same. For those of you who have kings, what’s your preload? How do you like the ride? And what do you recommend? Thanks.

You should cut to make the tires fit, and then lower it back down.

What spring rate did they come with?

Did you take it in for an alignment? Are you running stock UCA’s?

The ole, "I want 3" of lift but also to ride on a cloud" debate. If you're running a 33" tire you need to do some trimming and get alignment to add caster to make them fit. Once that's done, you can reduce the preload and obtain the ride quality.

Your tires are going to rub even at the increased ride height if you were to flex the truck out.

I had a similar experience years ago with some Camburg 2.5's. I had been running OME 882's with OME shocks but wanted to see what the hype was with adjustable 2.5 coilovers. They came with 13" 650 lb coils. The OME setup had me at about 2.75" of lift, so I set the Camburgs to the same....I had them on for maybe 1 week before swapping back to the OME coils/shocks. The ride was so harsh around town it was nearly unbearable. I never did try them with less preload since I wanted the lift.

I was told that they are designed to take bigger faster hits offroad and that's why the stiff ride at slower, in town driving. I don't think that is entirely true.

That ARB Bumper may to the issue, if it weighs a lot. I would consider a new spring that can handle the weight. Call KING.

It has a 600 lb spring on there. And I have aftermarket UCAs. I thought/hoped I didn’t have to trim with a 286/75r16. And I definitely will get an alignment and add caster if it helps. And maybe the ARB bumper could be the problem. I think I’ll call KING as well.

Need 650 with a bumper. Need to trim for the 285s. Or lower the truck to 1.5" of lift and get a 1" body lift. Should clear the pinch welds with a BL. The suspension lift doesn't do anything for clearing tires.

I have a 1" BL combined with suspension lift, I've been through a couple sets of 285 75 16's on 16x8 wheels with 4" backspacing, no rub even offroad. The small body lift could be the reason for that.

Where are the tires rubbing and what wheels are you running?
