Somone posted a link to an extension that converts the wires plug and play.

I considered using the link for plug and play. However, I am stuck with my MAF which is no longer available for my year of truck. Other then the stealership or remanufactured ones on ebay. If I switch to the Dorman air box ($60) and 1999 and newer MAF (50) I have the ability to replace my MAF with a original Denso.

So now that we all replaced our MAF sensors this week, is anyone willing to report an improvement in performance?

As for myself, I reset the ECU after replacing the MAF and took it for a 10 mile test drive. I could not reproduce the strange Ticking sound I was getting in 4th gear while accelerating hard, but it's too early to say for certain because it was a somewhat intermittent problem. Between cleaning the throttle body and replacing the MAF I think the engine is running great! I'm idling around 750 when the engine is hot.

I noticed a difference my old one had 60k on it, it was going bad because now my remote start never skips a beat and it was before my new maf, also feel the butt dyno truck is more on time when going wot. Happy I do preventive medicine. I believe youre ticking is injector related, get them cleaned and flow tested and it will sound like a sowing machine! I go through RC injectors, they build custom injectors for one of the fastest Supras, and their work/documentation is impecable. They were 125.00 to fully clean and rebuild and they give you the bad injector parts back with youre newly built injectors with all new O-rings and labeling for ea cylinder. Hope to hear more news on the mafs everyone got.

For posterity, here are the two tiny wires that need to be cleaned in a MAF. This sensor, AFAIK, 300K miles on it... which is why I decided to put a new one in for PM. The new one will be cleaned every time the air filter is cleaned or replaced.

Did you notice how nice and shiny the wires are in the new maf sensors we purchased, makes those wires look dull. Mine were the same.

Waiting on some silicone hose fittings and clamps to swap in the new air box and MAF, it has to be better than what it has now.

Replaced my sensor today. Had 165k miles on it. I can definity notice a difference. Idles much smoother. Seems to run better on freeway too.

Well, if it works it's probably not a good idea to try and fix it.

That train of thought goes back to the Great Depression, the damn thing has lived many lives as a maf sensor at that age in miles. A new one aint gonna hurt nothing, if anything what will he gain? Prob a bit better mpg and idle and shifting better and The Correct AFR and many more things this little bugger controls...

Waiting patiently to see the power increase too!, mine made a big difference and I cleaned it frequently and my filter & throttle body. There was more power to be had! this is an electronic part and that stuff goes bad unlike fully mechanical stuff. It is literally like cleaning carb jets which get dirty very frequently and they need cleaning but these dont last eons like that kinda stuff! Theres news of digital Maf sensors coming out next year its supposed to change the game altogether with very accurate afr readings but who knows if Denso is gonna go that route.

Got everything installed today and drove to work. (40 miles one way through rolling hills.)
I installed 3" tubing from the air box to the throttle body. (Throttle body is 2.75")
Drilled aluminum piece for methanol injection fitting.
I had to swap three wires, started without a problem before change, but would not accelerate.
My old air box had the deck plate mod, this one does not, I plan to do that this week and see if it improves anything.
With my old air box and deck plate mod my average WOT boost was 7 pounds, sometimes 8 pounds but not very often.
With the new air box and MAF and NO deck plate mod I could get 8 pounds easily at WOT coming to work today.

    Pros:
1-Idles really nice, not that it was bad before, just seems smoother.
2-Better throttle response, seems smoother all the way up to WOT.
3-AFR is just a hair more than before, bounces around 14.5 mostly, before was 14.7
    4-WOT AFR is 11.2, before was 11.5

    Cons:
I went with a cheap aftermarket air box, it is definitely thinner and cheaper. It works fine, but I will be on the lookout for a factory one.

While it works ok, you can tell the difference in material, fit and finish. It is thinner and lighter. And the clips holding the lid down had to be bent slightly to keep the lid closed tightly.

Update: Truck is running great, but my mileage went WAY down! I have been searching through wiring diagrams and illustrations trying to figure out if I have the wires correct. No luck so far. Toyota changed colors on wires more than they needed to, ugh.

    My current wiring configuration.

Glad its working out for you guys too, I think my computer has adjusted now after the install, and have really got some oomf now. My truck accelerates violently now so I can be easier on the gas to get up to speed limit and mileage got way better too. I hope you can figure that prob out Phessor!

Why change the MAF if it's not throwing codes? Does ping go away? I've got 180k on my truck, cleaned the MAF once maybe 5k miles ago. No codes but there is a slight ping which was not fixed by cleaning the MAF. From another thread it appears that an engine strip-down and cleaning of gunk was the only way to fix pinging.

One thing that everyone forgets a lot is inflation. Depending on how long ago these prices were made up, they could have just recently adjusted for it.
    upload_2018-1-5_12-3-29.jpg

It gets even more pronounced when you look at the truck as a whole... according to the internet, my Tacoma (V6 Extracab 4WD 'Limited', which I think means the TRD package) was $24,028 MSRP when new. $36k... why, that's about the price of a brand new TRD OR.
