I just got 21.4 MPG in my 02 3.4L 4x4 5 spd on a trip around Colorado last weekend. Not to bad considering I had a load of winter camping gear in the back.

I consistently get 17. I'm a double cab prerunner with an automatic and the 3.4. I have 265/75/16. I drive like an old man. But most of my drives are short trips under 6 miles, with 50/50 street/highway. I don't put on more than 6,000 miles per year now since my job is so damn close.

Frankly I feel guilty for not riding my bicycle to work. LOL

Last time I checked it was 18mpg and that with a 3.4 automatic and it is a 4x4 and that was pretty much all town driving. You can drop that by 20% to get the equivalent in U.S. terms. Gas mileage is a big issue with these trucks, but other than that a great little truck.

On the LegacyGT forum I frequent I've been told that higher octane fuel is actually less likely to give a naturally aspirated engine better fuel economy. Namely because the detergents they use to make it higher octane do not promote fuel efficiency for n/a engines.

    7. Use cruise control as much as possible.

I was averaging 19-20 mpg with my old tires (265-70-15). My new tires (265-75-15) brought me down to 17-18. My highway miles are now worse than what i get in the city, which makes no sense to me.:confused:

Okay, now I am curious. Chris as well as others mentioned an increase in MPG. I just thought 2 MPG would offset the cost.

Anyone in favor of higher octane?

I haven't tried it yet, but is seems plausible.

1995, 3.4L V6, 5-speed manual with stock wheels, JBA headers, JBA exhaust, K&N CAI, and a bug deflector.

According to Fuelly, I'm getting 18.4 MPG. Once we get snow the 4WD will kill that though.

Using Fuelly as my resource, I've found that more often than not I get better MPGs running 85 octane (I live at altitude) versus 87 or 91.

But like someone said, there's a lot more to it than just octane.

I've got the 2.4 liter, overall average is 24.7. It goes down a little in winter too, to 23 or 22. I've noticed that on the highway, if I do 70 or 75, I get 26, but if I do 55-60, I can get 28 or 29. Here's my Fuelly (I don't know how to post those fuelly badges):

Yeah, yeah, 3.4 4x, TRD ... I don't even try to calculate gas mileage with these motors, the 3.4 was never known for sipping gas, what I really want to address is the stupid ass wiper fluid light on, mine does the same, bugs the shit out of me.....

Seem to be right in the pack....3.4L, V6, 4WD, 5 Spd, extra cab with shell was getting around 21-22, moderate heavy foot, with JBA Headers, JBA Exhaust and K&N CAI riding on 265/70/16's. Just lifted and installed 265/75/16's and the mileage has dropped a bit around 19, and my commute is no traffic, just back country roads.....could be due to winter gas blends, riding around with the Defroster on, (this uses the a/c compressor- which is more drag on the engine). Will switch to full synthetic see if that get the numbers back up a hair or two. If I can stay around 20 I'd be happy.

if you really don't know, its worth knowing. mpg stands for miles per gallon, meaning the number of miles you drive on a gallon of fuel. now you know.
