Lol then maybe I'm all alone here. I actually like the fact mine doesnt have access doors. I never have anyone in the back anyway and I think it ends up making my cab stronger. In a roll over I would rather my doors be latched to a solid pillar vs two doors latching together. I had a 2000 F150 and it never really seemed like my doors latched totally solid. Though it was small when you would grab the doors you would get some flex from both doors "squishing" the weather stripping a little more. With my current Tacoma the doors are 100% solid

Having owned both (1998 & 2006), I'd agree with the updated engine and the access doors from the 2nd Gen. I'd also throw in a deeper cargo bed for the 1st Gen.

You are in good company, I love the comfort & ammenities of the 2nd. gen but it'd be perfect to downsize the 2nd gen features & incorporate them into a 1st gen bundle...;)

You posted this in the 1st gen section? That's a great way to get a truly representative answer.

have had my 08 for about 6 weeks now and am loving it but my old 04 (brothers now) looked lonely sitting in the driveway so i decided to drive it a little to charge that battery as he doesn't have his license yet, and wow i forgot how much different it is! The thing prob has only half the get up and go of my 08, it is a 4cyl but still even with the intake and exhaust i was literally laughing to myself that i once thought that truck had any sort of balls hahaha. Ride was rough, steering was loose, and it sounds like crap compared to my wicked flowed 4.0 haha. Although i would change the 6spd manual and the clutch in my new one, both the shifter and clutch are very stiff and clunky where as the old 5spd in the 04 is still smooth 160k miles later haha

I had a 1999 TRD 222,000 Miles original clutch, rear breaks, all the blubs. Had the air flow senser changed, and two sets of tires. AC rechaged, just normal stuff. I have a 2008 I like it just a Toytec lift ect. Just way to many problems to list. I love the 08 but I had to vote for the 99 it was Bullet Proof.
