Has anyone put a supercharger and turbo and intercooler all at once on there 1st gen. Thinking about doing it. But I dont know if it would blow the engine or be very unreliable. I could also do a little more improvements such as head gaskets. The air flow wouldnt be a big matter for the exhaust either unless you think i need aftermarket doug thorley headers. Dont know much about doing these mods. So if you can help me out send a message or even if you just have a supercharger by itself or a turbo by itself. This is for the 3.4l v6 4wd tacoma

Handful of people have done it before. waste of money imo.

You can swap in a 5.3 or 6.0 ls with some bolt ons and make same hp for half the price.

I dont really know much about putting a different engine in it besides toyota. Would that still be liable? Or could I put 1st gen tundra engine in it?

You want reliability and a power boost, then put the SC on it with a 7th injector and be happy IMO. Maybe some headers after that if you don't feel like it's enough.

Alright. I might go with just a S/C or get a another truck such as a tundra. Wilk always keep my taco though. Thanks for the replies guys. Would you recommend a cold air intake if i got the s/c. I know people have said there tacomas dont have performance increase from them due to engine heat but i could custom fabricate a box that only lets in air from the out side

If you pull trailers a lot, getting a full size truck will be the best route to take. No matter how much power you have, you'll still be limited due to the small wheelbase.

Alright thanks. I was wanting to get a 1996 or newer tacoma that had a blown motor or needed a lot work so i could turn it in to a sand dune prerunner and put a ls or something bigger in it. Anybody know someone that would want to get rid of a truck like that? Only 1st gen tacomas

Yeah. I love my truck but I want something to have fun in a to keep miles off my truck. I have a lot of work done to the truck due to using as a work truck and putting a lot of miles on it

Why not buy a 1st gen tundra keep it stock as a daily and use your truck as your fun rig? That way when it breaks you still got your work truck

Supposedly a 4.7L from a 1st gen tundra will bolt right up to a R151F manual trans, but I don't know about the A340's. And 4.7's aren't just laying around everywhere, but I think it would be a really cool swap.

Yeah. Is a tundra as reliable as a tacoma?

So the 4.7 bolts up to the 3.4l manual trans? Im not experienced in engines so i dont know how much is required for a swap. Such as would i have to change all the wiring out, or would there just be an adapter harness. Im 17 but i can usually figure things out. I just dont understand the engine swap. Would the bigger engine creat a lot od wear and tear on the trans?

yes. the 4.7s are pretty bullet proof. they are a little low on hp though. especially earlier years.

I've never heard much bad on the early Tundra's. My friend had an '02 and it was a strong truck, and road amazing offroad. Had about 235,000 miles and he'd still be driving it but was in a bad wreck that totaled the truck.

As far as I know, the 4.7 will bolt right up to a R151 trans, someone may wanna double check that though. You would need the wiring harness from a tundra, I think, so that the truck would run. And as far as wearing out the trans, the R151 is a pretty stout trans, I wouldn't have any concerns with one behind a 4.7. Its more than likely a stronger trans than a A340, and thats what went behind the early tundras.

That helps a lot. When I do a swap like that can I still use similar parts from my 3.4l. Such as the exhaust, catalytic converter and would that require a larger battery?

Battery should be fine, as for exhaust, I am not sure. It may be the same from the manifolds back, but the manifolds will definitely be different. The hardest part of that swap, in my opinion, is finding a 4.7L in good condition with decent mileage. Theres a write up on the swap over on TTORA somewhere. Guy swapped a 2002 4.7L into his '98 Tacoma.
