It's more than knowing how to use a wrench. Without this friend, I could never dream of building a Tacoma more than a simple lift. You've gotta cut out IFS and replace it with a solid front axle. Lots of welding and plasma cutting required. There's a reason that solid axle swaps are a big deal. They're a large undertaking. There's plenty of money involved.

Maybe 2500 into it? What would you put in? A wagoneer D44? A lincoln-locker, or lockright? Again, more is spent on parts than labor. At least that's how this SAS worked out.

Again, doing it right is expensive.

my buddy just completed his sas, him and his dad did it and hes 10k deep into it, thats zero labour costs and a FREE front diff. however he did get the ARB air locker for the front differential which was quite the expense, but to do a very good job on a sas you couldnt do it for anywhere near 5k

He's calling you a liar. Prove him wrong. How about a detailed list of parts and materials and their costs, totaling around $2500?

That'll include your wagoneer D44 (w/ no rebuild kit), wire for welding your diff, used springs, used shocks, used everything etc

Edit: don't forget those used diff's, free welders and plasma cutters, used steering and more

i have a freshly rebuilt dana 44 at the shop i work at FREE and a majority of the shit i need is laying around the shop all FREE i will do it and write a price list of what it cost me I have access to welders plasmas and other shit. We are a dealer for a lot of the toyota aftermarket part companies so i get that fairly cheap like coilover and such.

Go look at p_tree's build. He did his sas for about as cheap as humanly possible, and scraped by at 3200 for the first go around. You simply can't do it for cheaper. So come back to reality and buy every single part you need, see where you are at, then figure another 1500-2000 for the parts that you don't realize you need to buy. Why don't you take your plan and go run it by the guys on Pirate4x4? Far more experience than people on here, and im sure they will be all for your 2500 sas build!

k so you are say 2000 for parts i have a fresh dana 44 i got for free. i have most of the stuff for steering free so what you think 2500 in parts sounds like i could do it. if you went leafs it is a ton cheaper but i could do coilovers on that budget i would make all brackets and i have links at the shop basically i would have 2500 for coilovers can get the wholesale or used i still got money for other shit. I have been on pirate 4x4 alot of those guys are very good at what they do and most of them dont buy brand new shit and pay other people to put it in for them.

i would never say anything about his build. his build is very good and he did a extremely good job on it. he got the best stuff he could for it and i respect that. most of us dont have that kind of money to drop on a truck and i dont know his finacial standings but i would guess it is not all paid for if he spent 90k on it.

Wait 90k?! Are you serious! Even if that includes the sticker price of the truck then holy fuck!
:rofl: Oh this is going to get good. Can we call in the SAS douche to set this kid straight? Where is supraTT when you need him?

Watch out. We all better leave. Clearly this 16 year old with his first car/truck knows everything there is to know about 4x4s.
