This is how many of them ended up, they actually even had a recall for rusty spare tire mounts...

Look out for the thread police though!!!

Are there any tailgate mounts that are difficult to steal the tire from? Not looking for something impossible to steal, but a big enough deterrent for 90% of drive by thefts to not bother with or give up on.

If someone wants to steal something, they will.

With that being said, I had wheel locks on my spare tire holder as well as a cable lock I ran through the steel wheel.

The cable lock could be cut, but I'd hope that a potential thief wouldn't have wire cutters with them if they tried to steal my wheel. Same with trying to get my round/spinning lug nuts which I'll be using again for my new swing out.

    Those look like grippy tires!
    I had an '01 2wd 5-spd before I got the '04 4wd; I thought it was pretty quick for a truck, even with the 2.4L 4-banger.

Keep an eye o. The latch u-bolt. Mine snapped on me while I was out bouncing around. Could have been my fault for having it to tight. But either way I now carry a spare one. I was able to get it from mccarsters or however it's spelt.
